hf free flashlight unusual occurance

Have an old hf small flashlight. It's at least 3 years old. No real problems. Have put it in my mouth many many times with no problem. I carried it with me constantly. About 2 months ago I retired it to my desk. Still no issues til I put it in my mouth to get a sliver out of my finger. But when I did my mouth and tongue felt like they were burning. Thought maybe from a leaking battery but found no evidence from that. Anyone else ever have this happen ?

WOW, I am impressed that you have a HF flashlight that still works after 3 years, 3 months is about my max.

It could be some contamination on the light, not necessarily from inside the light.

Really, it's over 3 years old. Almost all the blueish color is gone. I used it a few days ago and no problem. So maybe I figured out my own problem, leaking battery. Sooo, no one else sticks them in their mouth while working ? Isn't that std procedure for mechanics ? Did I miss something ?

Just yesterday, a guy at work came over to my work bay because I was cussing a hose clamp install. It was just giving me a fit. He grabbed my HF flashlight, put it in his mouth and proceeded to work on the hose clamp. Then, he handed it back to me. I thought WTF? But, he did get the clamp positioned the way I wanted. He's a great guy.

At my HF store it is run by two very nice people Mrs. Alotta Fagina Jones and her husband Buster Hymen Jones, I don't think they would allow anyone to touch their products, let alone put into their mouth.

Seriously, I have my share of HF stuff but most stuff in that store comes out of factories somewhere inside China. I would never trust anything from HF, to put it in my mouth, to not have lead in the paint or the product let alone whatever other cancer causing chemicals or toxins are in there.

I have a free HF flashlight that is sitting on my nightstand that still works, on the original batteries, for at least 3+ years. I never put it in any orifices though...

Have held flashlights in my mouth before but the original issue was how did he get hit by doing it. My theory is that the back cap was not tight and saliva from his mouth completed the circuit. Power runs from the rear spring to the cap which is screwed to the body of the flashlight to complete the circuit for the bulb to light. Probably only 4 1/2 volts if it has 3 AAA batteries. Not enough to hurt you but enough to tingle some. I still check 9v batteries with my tongue.

Even so, it's not advisable to put Chinese products in your mouth. They're forever being caught out covered in dangerous stuff. At the very least, it's best to scrub it all thoroughly if possible.

It's probably just galvanic action in one form or another - Just like putting a 9-volt on your tongue or accidentally biting a piece of AL foil.

The cheap anodizing probably wore off in one spot and you got that metallic taste thing.

Ha ha, you guys crack me up. I have others that I hold in my mouth and I don't get the burn. So again, most likely a leaking battery. Once figured out I will let you know. And no, I do not slobber all over my flashlights nor tuck them in odd orifices !
