HF Impact Sockets?

I have quite a few HF impact sockets (among many other brands) and I have never had a problem with any of them. For those that say they only live with cheap impacts, I call BS on that too. I have an IR 2135TiMAX and use it with the HF impact sockets all the time. I also have some of the 3/8" impact sockets and they have survived very well with my Mac 3/8 impact as well.

+1.

My cheap impact sockets survived daily use at the end of a 2135QTiMAX running on 130psi without issue.

I've got a mix with Cman, IR, and HF.
I''ve hammered the **** out of the HF sockets and never had a problem. Not sure what brand/coo they were.

I like the ones that are marked chrome moly,I have never had one fail me yet from HF. I understand some people like the usa impacts, but if you do not have the money the next best deal is HF.

I have the "Genius" branded, HF chrome moly. impacts from Taiwan, full set of metric and standard, in both regular and deep length. They came in very nice metal trays (boxes for deeps) and they're awesome. I bought them a while back because I couldn't (at the time) afford or justify the cost on US made offerings.

At this point though, even if I had the money, I think I'd still buy these and save the difference for something else. They are incredibly stout and well made, much better than some of the US-made that I've seen. I've got a preference for US made, but for impact sockets, I don't see the point in spending twice as much on, say, Craftsman, versus these.

My $.02 anyway.

I'm a HF fan, I especially have a soft spot for my 14 piece metric 1/2" laser etched set that I used exclusively as my 1/2" socket set. But to say they are more stout than USA brands is not true. Like I said I have a pretty large assortment of Proto Professional, Proto Challenger, Williams US, SK, Snap On and Facom and even my 3 year old daughter could tell the difference. You can tell the difference blind folded. The USA sockets are just much heavier and just have a lot more meat to them. Another thing to note is that I used my 16mm HF impact socket to remove the head bolts on my Land Rover V8 (with a long breaker bar they were on there tight) and the inside definitely got stretched a bit. That socket is a bit loose fitting now and that was using a breaker bar not a impact wrench. It was a whole lot of torque though.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, or denying that USA sockets are better than Taiwanese.

That said, weight as an indicator of quality hasn't been close to accurate since at least the '80's.

I would disagree, if a USA socket has twice the mass of a HF socket that is a good indicator of the abuse it can withstand relatively speaking.

Again, another thread hijacked by USA only snobs. I started this thread to get opinions on the best Harbor Freight impact sockets, which i have received, not to be told that harbor freight ***** and i should buy USA.

If I wanted to know the best USA made ones are, I WOULD HAVE ASKED! You snobs make it hard sometimes for me to come back to this site. Everyone gets very annoyed by it, except the other snobs. I wish you people would stay on subject.

I hope some people will see this before it gets "cleaned up" by some Moderator who is also a "USA only snob", like a couple of my other posts did

I think this was a pretty good thread, the regular haters stayed away. Thicken your skin if you are going to be active in this forum.

You are just as bad as the so called "snobs".

I politely stated that I didn't have good luck with Harbor Freight impact sockets (which I actually purchased and used). I posted a link to more information including a picture on my website. You then called me a USA only snob.

When you ask for opinions on a forum, you're not going to get "just what you want to hear."

Your avatar freaks me out. Looks kinda like an evil version of my niece.

Yeah, I have used avatar on every forum I go on. It freaks the hell out of me too, thats why i love it. I gave it the title "Want some candy?" :)

True and I wasn't referring to you post. However, the opinion I asked for was the best Harbor Freight impact sockets. I wouldn't have mind all the other posts about USA sockets if I would have asked what is the best impact socket for the money.

Oops, sorry guy. I guess I am also guilty of not answering your question. .:)

The only time I've split impact sockets is when using them with a breaker bar.

I've not seen a recommendation against this. But thinking about it, using a socket this way puts a different kind of stress on it. These were deep socket on axle nuts and wheel bolts, and there was likely substantial off-axis force that opens the socket end up more than the pure on-axis torque from an impact wrench.

i used their chrome non-impact sockets with my ir-2135 for awhile before i knew better. they never broke. now i have a complete set of pittsburg impact sockets in 3/8 and 1/2. sans the swivel sockets however they're on my "to buy" list. i just buy them once in awhile. $19.99 to $27.99 here and there untill i have all of them. i wish they had 1/4 inch impact sockets. i use my stuff on weekends. i'm no professional. i've never broken one. they are consiterably thinner than the more expensive brands. i'm sure i'll have one break sooner or later, i'll simply take it to the store and have it warrantied. where are these earthquake sockets everyone is talking about? i can't find them on the web site. i see the earthquake impacts but no earthquake sockets.

I've stated before that I like my IR impact sockets the best but I have tons of HF ones that I like as well. I'm sorry, but for the price you just can't beat them.

I love my Snapon but when comparing 13 deep 6pt impact sockets for $350 to 13 deep 6pt impact sockets for $20, it's kind of a no brainer. I mean, you could buy almost 18 sets of HF sockets for the price of 1 Snapon Set.

That being said, I love Snap-on and would rather have them lol.

Count me as a USA only snob (if taking pride in using a domestically produced tool to keep profit and jobs in the USA indicates "snobbery") . I actually have a set of HF 1/2" impacts bought many years ago. They have worked ok for me so far, but seem clunky and ill proportioned.

They're on the list to be replaced. I feel dirty after using them :)

I'll never look at a HF tool in my hand and say "I'm glad I bought the very cheapest".
