HF LED Shop Light

I have been wanting to change out my old tube style shop lights for awhile. Well, I noticed HF had their 4 foot LED lights on sale during Black Friday, so I thought why not. The reviews looked good and the price was right, so off to HF I went.
Picked up two and headed back home.

The lights come with plugs, but for me, my lights are hardwired in, so off with the plugs.

The LED’s are much brighter hands down. Plus, no more humming.

So for my experience with the HF light, I am giving them a “thumbs up.”

I got mine at BJ's Wholesale for $19.99 each, too. 5500Lm, 5000k. Garage is lit like an operating room now.

They go on sale for $18.99 occasionally, but getting them for $19.99 isn't too much of a challenge.

FWIW - I bought a case of them using a coupon and the manager allowed it though there was a limit of 5 (I think) on the coupon.

I've been using them for about 6 months - no complaints at all.
It would be nice if I could solid mount them, I don't like hanging them on chains, especially when there is a cord... the light will lean if the cord isn't managed properly.

I'm buying another case in the near future.

I have them in my garage and they work well so far. You can use a coupon to get them for under 20 dollars all the time. Only thing like previously stated, you can't really surface mount them.

On Black Friday, WalMart had 4' LED shoplights for twelve bucks. But it was worth it to me to pass, not to have to deal with the madness called "Black Friday".

Anyone get any of those lights? I was curious to see if they were decent or not.

Anyone have ideas/tips on flush mounting and hard wiring these puppies?

Not sure if it is flush mount kinda... I lob the wire plug off and use a gland nut for the wire to the octagon ceiling box...

for the ceiling box, I used the metal round ceiling cover and drill the appropriate hole... if the gland nut is for 1/2" knock out it's a 7/8 hole...

If you want a light or two to hang over a bench or a tool and has a pull chain for extra TASK lighting the Costco Feits are about the best of the cheap **** LED lights.

If you are lighting a shop, taking about buying a bunch, surface mounting, wiring in correctly, etc THEN read Platonic Solids excellent sticky at the top of this forum called "the best lighting fixture ever"

I got 2 of them. They aren't great, but they put out decent light. The lenses are not frosted, so you get glare if they are mounted too low. I haven't permanently hung them yet, just using them for task lighting at the moment.

Are all of you talking about single tubes lights? I only see ST lights on the HF flyer. If so, do they compare at all to a twin tube light? I ask because I converted 8 TT lights to double ended LED lamps for a cost of $14 ea. (before our outrages 10% sales tax) and they are excellent. For that cost, I'd pick up any cheap TT housing and buy more LED's.

I second this. Way too much glare.

I appreciate this thread, I'm wiring and hanging my bay lights, vaulted ceiling from 11.5' to 14.5'. I've already bought and paid for the old style T8 eight footers so I'm gonna grab some bulbs off Amazon and cut the balasts out. That will atleast make the most of my prior investment even though I'll be trowing the bulbs out.

Take a detailed look at what you are buying. I think some of this comparison is Apples to Oranges. All 4' shop lights are not the same. The HF ones are 5,000 Lumens. I looked up the CostCo ones mentioned and they are 4,000 Lumens. 20% less bright. Most of the ones I have seen are usually in the 4,000 range. Odd the HF are 5,000. Also some are Cool White or Soft White. A difference in glare from what I have seen.

I put up 4 of the HF lights. Most times I just have one, maybe two on.

Mine hang down about 3" to 4" off of hooks screwed into the ceiling joists. I have a 9 ft. ceiling. They're plugged into ceiling receptacles. I left the pull strings on so I can turn them on/off individually.

They are bright white.

Just bought some replacement LED 4' bulbs at Costco the other day, two-pack for $9.99. They replace both the standard T8 and T12 bulbs. Threw two of them in, replacing two that were wonky... seem pretty good so far.
