Has anyone used just the portion of the toolbox on a project?

what did you do about the lid?

I want to incorporate the tool box, drawers portion into a lathe stand.
Thanks, Joe

Not sure what you are asking by "what did you do about the lid"?

Are you talking about not being able to open the drawers without opening the lid? If so, all I did was take a grinder and cut off the two rods that get pushed down when the lid is closed to lock the drawers....

I just recently did something similar with a Kobalt top chest under my welding table. I simply removed the top lid, made mounting provisions, then mounted it to the table.B8194909-EC51-4EE0-BECA-976E383F0596.jpeg

Just keep in mind that the box is meant to be hung from above. It doesn't have a rigid structure that would allow it to support any weight if it was sitting on its bottom. Even when hanging, it's very flimsy if not supported with some rigid crossmembers.

I think you would be fine mounting under the table similar to mine. In fact, I am eyeing two US General 4 drawer carts now at $100 for both in my area. Now I just need to find a table to mount them under! 🤪 I am looking at under my Clausing lathe catch pan for this.

People do all kinds of wacky stuff with them:

I think your idea of mounting it in a frame should work just fine. I’m reluctant to recommend Reddit for anything but the r/harborfreight subreddit is pretty decent and has lots of people who’ve modified their carts. That would probably be the best place to ask if you still have questions.

There’s already a HUGE thread about mods to this cart, filled with great ideas. Do we really need to start another? Pretty much anything you can think of, somebody here has done!

I had viewed the 104 page thread before posting here. But thanks, I didn't see anything like i was asking. I especially enjoyed all the dead photobucket links, and how to store a paint can.

Maybe instead of policing the journal your local community would be better served by you going up and down your neighborhood block searching for HOA violations.

You might have mentioned you already checked that thread. That’s all that was required, not so much the snark.
