OK I know, what the hell did I expect... unfortunately my infrequent need for a miter saw cannot justify the expense of something better. The saw works fine BUT after changing the rip blade for a plywood blade, the damn blade guard sticks to the housing and will not move... I have taken it apart several times, everything is there, the spring works and all appears normal but the guard no longer moves when I operate the saw. Obviously I did something wrong and screwed something up. Has anyone had this problem and discovered a fix?

Thanks!

I really find it hard to believe that no one else has had this problem. The guard is still sticking despite my best efforts . The spring is good but it still sticks . I would be surprised to find that this difficulty is unique to one saw.

I have a 10" Delta that does the same thing. I have tried to adjust it but to no avail. I have used it for a lot of years so its done a decent job overall. So I bought a new 12" Dewalt to take its place, no more problem. Cant recommend you do that. But I guess that problem is not confined to one brand

Long Beach CA, the sewer by the sea.
Just saw this. If you change something and something doesn't work, change it back. Now either the new blade is too thick or you used a washer/spacer on the wrong side.

This can't be tough.

Hi Guys,

Zeke that is what I thought I did... just put it back like it was .... I guess my next trick is to pull it off again and see some gunk got into it .. maybe some sawdust got mixed in with the lube or something. It looks simple and the saw is similar enough to the DeWalt that the blade guard stuff is very similar. I am going to keep after it but just thought someone else must have run into it by now. Thanks for your comments . Unlike some, I will report when/if I figure it out.

Well Ken I did what you did ... happened to find a 12 Inch DeWalt on CL. More than I wanted to pay but it solved the problem. The guy I bought the DeWalt from told me about a repair place in town so after I installed the DeWalt in the shop I took the HF saw to the repair place. Oddly enough they did not turn up their noses. They charged a 20 buck diagnostic fee up front and my guess was that they wouldn't have any better luck than I would .

Was I surprised one day later when they called and said it was fixed, working perfectly and the additional charge was 14 bucks. The guy said it almost drove THEM crazy too but they figured out what was "inside out" and got it working. The place is only about a mile from Harbor Freight so I am going to take some of their cards to the HF manager in case any other poor ******* has to deal with this problem too. They couldn't help but maybe they will at least give a referral.

As Paul Harvey said, NOW you know the rest of the story.... and I have an excellent HF Miter saw for sale.
