I have the sockets, just because they are easy to tell at one glance what color you need (what size), and they have worked fine for about 4 years so far.

The colors don't help me remember the size. I know they help some people. I have a coworker who can remember the size of each of the Craftsman nut drivers based on the color.

colors don't help me... ive tried to do things that way. Thats why I got the hansens quickly can ID what the size of the socket is without picking it up and spinning it to find the number. odd that I can guess with about 75% accuracy what size socket i need by looking at the bolt head but 90% of the time Ill pick up the wrong socket.

I've got the sockets, but I keep them at home. I don't think I could bring myself to let others see that funny business in my toolbox. I would just rather have them be standard chrome and maybe laser etching if they wanted them to be easy to see. I agree that some people probably like the color coding so they can memorize what size is what color, but it hasn't helped me any.

I bought the chrome metric and SAE deep sets last week from HF and it offends me to pay more for the socket tray than the entire set of sockets. Who sells decent socket trays at reasonable prices? HF only had some black pieces of junk.

Jim

Northern Tool has some cheap ones, Pep Boys too.

Jim, Buy made in USA to help our country. I won't go color sockets, I know by looking what the size is most the time. If I have some other person get me a socket I just tell them the size, they should know their math. If not, then more or proper schooling is in order.

I always thought the multicoloredness made them look like toys for some reason hahah, I'll keep straining my eyes to see my sockets!! especially the random craftsman sockets that have two different sizes stamped on them right over top of one another

I'm pretty good about grabbing the right size socket without looking at the size, unless I'm going back and forth between impact and standard, because then the wall thickness really screws with my judgement hahah

But like everyone else said, I'm always good at telling what size socket I need by looking at the bolt, and grabbing the right socket without looking for a number, the colored shits are at my house, so no co-workers will ever see me use my pink one :p
But yea, after a couple years of working on cars, especially for a living, you get good at eyeballing the size without looking at the number.

Most of my U. S. size wrenches and sockets aren't labeled at all, so I've grown used to judging just by the size opening on the socket/wrench. I also keep my big sockets in a specific order in my tool box from largest to smallest to make selecting the right size a little easier.
