I’m looking at the HF US Gen toolboxes, along with others (Homak RS and NewAge). I’m thinking maybe a 72 and 44, since I have a lot of tools. I’m looking for ideas on what multiple box configurations seem to work best. Multiple 44’s, 56’s, 72’s. Those of you who have multiples, what has worked best for you? Pros and cons of each size. I’m gathering info because I’m having a hard time deciding.

I have a 72” bottom, a 56” upper, a side locker and a set of aux drawers.

Now that the 72” upper has been announced, I will get one of them, and a 56” lower probably this year. I should be more than set for storage then.

I have multiple bottoms, 3 2bay and 1 3bay old Matcos with an end locker and 1 side drawer hangon .
Part of reason I went 2 bays is easier logistics and more setout options such as 2 stationary one roll or can set up around a shop corner and so forth .
Drawer configuration another plus of mixing different sizes .
I think your idea of a 72 and a 44 give you good capacity and mix of drawer sizes .
Masterforce boxes worth a look if willing travel to pick up, 24" deep and the 72" is probably best 72" box buy when on sale/rebate deal, they also got good range from around 30 to 60 range .

I’ll have to look at the Masterforce as well. I have a tall toolbox now and want to convert to all lowers because the upper is too hard to access. I like the ease of access to lowers.

In my mind, there is nothing that comes close to the value of the Series 2 HF boxes. If you calculate storage capacity vs cost, the 56" is the winner by a significant amount.

I have a pile of various boxes and cabinets in my little garage; have a ton of specialty tools ranging from working on cars, woodworking, car audio, snowmobiling etc. If I was to start from zero, I would do multiple 56" rollers with one open top as a work bench like I did with a 1" solid Bamboo countertop I modified. The rest with a mixture of 56 and smaller top boxes to get the small drawers into the mix. The 22" depth really is nice to have, the 26" top box is real functional and great value too.

Well, I bought two 44” HF US General boxes, and I’m happy with the build quality. Sure, they aren’t Snap-On, but it is what I could afford. The only issue I found is that one is about 3/8” taller than the other. It seems the boxes are the same size, but the casters are different, which makes the overall height different. Of course I didn’t notice this until I filled both boxes with tools. Not sure it’s a big enough issue that I’ll load it back in my truck and return it. But, for those looking, you may want to examine the casters from underneath before purchasing two or more to make sure the casters are the same on both. The taller box had less “liner” material on the wheels. The sku# on both boxes where exactly the same (64443). They were palleted differently as well. One had the wheels hanging and the other had the wheels sitting on wood. I wasn’t paying attention to which box came off which pallet. So, look out for that as well. Ive already filled both boxes and will most likely need a third.
