HF porta power

Anyone have any experience with this product? I need to remove a flanged axel that is stuck tight (not a press fit) and have no way of getting a good swing of a hammer or pry bar. There have been numerous times a porta power would have been handy so now is the right time to buy. This would be an occasional use item so I don't need a great one. Anyone who owns one of these care to share a quick review as to the quality?

I have had one for about 10 years, while I do not use it a lot it has worked well every time it has been used.

I have the 4 ton version, cant complain its done anything I have ever wanted it to used it to straighten a quad frame and have used it alot working on my ag equipment. At the same time I have never used a Brand name porta power so I dont know if this one is **** compared to them or not.

To remove a stuck axle from it's housing, attach a 10' length of heavy chain to a axle
lug,and snap the chain like a whip . Usually the axle will pop out on the first or second try. Beware, do not stand directly in line with the axle,it's a good way to injure your leg.

Mine works ok when needed.

Spends most of its life under the workbench, though. Not for commercial work but for occasional use (once every couple of years) it has been satisfactory.

Just like everyone else I hardly ever use mine, but it worked last time I touched it years ago. I have the Cummins Tools/Ram Tools model, ie the traveling tool sales

I have the HF one I got 15 years ago and a couple of years ago was given a Blackhawk Porta Power set. The only difference I have seen between the 2 is one costs hundreds of dollars more.They both do the job when I have needed it to.

Bought one this year on my way home from Mohave to fix the motorcycle side case I crushed. It worked just fine, but not much of a workout for it. Like others, I won't need it often, but nice to have for the price. I used one of their coupons to reduce the price to a pretty reasonable level; much less than the cost to replace the bent case.

Spooler, thanks for the idea but a 10 pound slide hammer failed to even budge this axel (not a conventional automotive axel).

I have the HF 4 ton, works fine. The blow molded case is pretty cheesy, but that's a minor complaint really.

I agree that case is total ****..


With that said I got mine for like half off or something because the case was trashed.. A metal box would be allot nicer. But none of this effects the use of the tool..

around a $100 depending on which one you get..

I would imagine you actually do need one. Its one of those tools with a million use's that most people just never think to use..

I use mine pretty often.
