What's with HF tools that have the different item numbers yet seem to be the same product? Are there any differences. I'm talking those that you see on the website as I have not compared anything like that in the store.

Exactly. They probably use it to track return/failure rates etc. It's also a good way to know that old inventory is being rotated out.

Different levels of toxins.

ROTFL. I doubt that. Probably just different TYPES of toxins.
I'm sure the mercury in one was substituted for lead in another, and PCBs in another. ;)

Lead was put into paint to get the best quality. Lead paint, the good paint.

Or they changed materials. I picked up a brake bleeding kit recently. One SKU had some hooks to hang the bleeder attachment out of the way. The other SKU didn't have those hooks. The hose barb thread was also brass on the one with the hooks instead of plastic.

i THINK this was discussed once before, and it was said that it was HF's way to track the same product that was made from 2 different manufactures - like one that was made in Tiwan, and another made in China. might explain why some get good reviews and other not so much..

Yeah I know it's by own quote but here is an example of the basis of the question. If you were buying this product which one would you buy? Didn't look at them side by side but I think they have the same exact description. Different item numbers.

Most of the time it has to do with a sale can only be on sale for so long until the price has to be changed to that price. So by having more than one sku they can rotate which one is on sale so that they always have some thing on sale....

So from what I hear no body knows?
But wait I have an opinion too.
It is to keep your attention longer. Instead of just getting one, you look, and consider, and ponder, and while you are doing that you see something else, and so on, and so on, before you know it you have enjoyed much of the day. Thanks HF

I bought their low profile floor jack, and there were 3 different SKUs on the pallets. They all looked the same, but a few of them had some sort of shipping sticker with a very recent date. So I figured that newer was better, and got one with that SKU that had an intact box.

My conclusion is that minor revisions, supplier changes, etc. results in a new SKU, most likely for accounting purposes. You'll also notice that ratings on their site are mapped to a specific SKU, so they can also track ratings against specific items.

Mostly likely done in order to balance out the positive, negative, and neutral reviews.
