Depends on what you expect to use it for. I have one I bought back when they still had 25% coupons, and I applied all the "fixes" mentioned in these forums when I assembled it. I rarely use it, but when I need to remove rust or years of accumulated paint from something relatively small it works great and saves time. You will need a decent size compressor and a vacuum to operate it efficiently, so figure that into the equation.

If its the same one in the picture thats an awful good price. you also gonna need a good compressor to go with it 60 to 80 gallon at the minimum. They come in real handy I have had my skat blast cabinet for years. I am also thinkin I will upgrade to a Bad Boy blaster. I love there cabinets.

Usually seal it up and upgrade to a Skat-Blast gun. For $75 it could be a good deal especially if it has already been upgraded.
After you use it for a year or two you will find out why he moved up to a better cabinet. Then you can sell it and get money towards your upgrade.

Mainly upgrade the crappy light in it and seal the **** out of it. I thought I had mine sealed well enough when I put it together. I was wrong. Need to add more sealant around the window. I have a nice dust pile that blew out the top part of the window on it.

I just bought this a couple of weeks ago for $150, and it's definitely worth $75. You'll want to definitely apply silicone sealant to all the seams as the foam tape that comes with it is not up to the task.
I put metal foil tape over the pocket holes in the door to keep media from piling up there to spill out when you open the door. I'm thinking about adding a small metal sheet bent out from the door to help shuffle media into the grates.
Dust collector works wonders to add to it. Worth it.
Replace the light with an under counter 24" model. Simple, easy, MUCH brighter than the 12 volt DC one they come with.
Give it lots of clean *dry* air and it should work fine. I'm running black diamond / coal cinders in mine currently and it seems to work just fine. Wish I could say the same for the compressor that was feeding it. Time to replace a pressure cutoff switch airline. GRR.

I was just reading about sealing it up. I think he was talking about that. I called him but not home so I let a message, hope to set up a pickup over the weekend. I have a small reliant dust collector, but wouldn't a shop vac work?

Shop vac has to have the motor in it sealed real well and use a very good filter or media dust will destroy the motor in your shop vac. Also use a media collection system look on the TP tools web site under blast cabinet accesories to see how they work. Should be able to make one out of a 5 gallon bucket with a good sealing lid.

Regarding dust control, a small shop-vac and an in line water trap will work. I've used mine for years without any problems. There are several GJ threads on this.

You got lucky a friend of mine that has a skat blast cabinet too seized up 2 shop vacs with the dust from his. He did not have the media reclaimer in his system like mine tho. might have been the difference.

I have been running my HF cabinet, for 10 years now. I put together a dust control system, much the same as yours. I plumbed it with PVC. The blower has a 1/6th HP external motor and runs so quiet, that you can hear a mouse pee on cotton. From the 5 gallon bucket of water, it just runs out through the shop wall. What is trapped in the water, has the consistency of baby powder.
I an using a 4hp, 29 gallon compressor and after the first year, I bought the newer model gun that came out. I also replaced the light, with a regular socket and a 100w bulb. I run the heck out of this set-up, and use premium play sand from Home Depot. --- John

Nice set up.
I tried various types of lights and found that an inexpensive pair of halogen spot lights worked well.

I picked up the blaster today, It did not have any mods at all. I went and got a new glass cut for it. I took it apart and removed the "shelf" inside it that holds the sand on the sides. I cut and lowered the support 3 inches, tacked that in place and cut the screen to fit. I have to get a pedal, and mod the bottom so the grit will come from the bottom. Still some work to do and things to locate.
I watched a vid on you tube its a good idea but trying to find the kit is another thing.

Stick on covers to protect window. Along with foot pedal and gun are available from TP tools. Media you can buy at Menards or Home depot. Media at TP toos is a little pricey. Black magic media I would not use it is too course allways plugs up my gun or media valve.

Those are some good mods.
Mine is home made (post #11). I seem to have been modifying it since day one and I'm not done yet!
One thing I did was to make it so I can blast by both syphon and pressure feed. I have a gun for each inside the cabinet. View media item 36759
