Hey guys,

I was in HF today and was looking at their professional screwdriver set that seems to get good reviews here. It was $10, and I was ready to pick up a set to throw in my tool bag in the truck, but then I saw the Quinn set. The set is larger and they seem to fit into HF’s new better quality tool model, but they were $25 for a set. The money isn’t the issue. I am curious which HF set has the better drivers.

Just to be clear, I am not asking what the best cheap screwdriver set is, so I don’t want to know about Tekton, or other brands, I am specifically asking about the HF sets.

TIA guys!

Haven’t tried the Quinn. I misplace screwdrivers so I’ve tried many brands and the HF ones are all over the board since they seem to use many vendors.

That’s the issue. Some of them are complete ****. I have heard that the professional ones are pretty nice for the money. I’m just wondering if the Quinn brand3 ones are as nice or nicer than the professional set. I really couldn’t give a damn about the difference in the number of pieces.

If you need a #3 phillips get the Quinn set. Otherwise the Pittsburgh Pro have slimmer shafts for getting to recessed fasteners and they grip fasteners better. Or go to Napa and get the 8 piece Carlyle set that's on sale for $22.

I was considering "moving up" to the Quinn just for the hell of it, but then with comparison reviews, about square shafts and so-so fit, decided to stay with my $8 "pro" set(s), that seem to work, just like screwdrivers.:pimpflash

You want good drivers on a budget just round up some Tekton. HF doesn’t carry them but some of the other Chinese tool stores ( ours always has)do. Then there’s the net .

HF offers a two piece Quinn screwdriver set that has a phillips#2 and 1/4 flat tip in it for like a couple of bucks on sale. I bought that just to try out since those are probably the most used sizes for me. The handles are comfortable and the square shafts aren't an issue for me in those sizes.
However, there's no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water. The Hf professional scewdriver set has been the best bang for the buck set for years now and if you did need a #3 phillips, i'm pretty sure they sell those individually in open stock.

What you say makes sense but he specifically asked only about HF drivers

I have the HF #69420 (lol) screwdriver set.

I would categorize it as useful for when you want expendable screwdrivers to lose somewhere. This model is low quality and bends easily. It does seem to fit fasteners just fine though, and the inclusion of t20 torx is nice.

Ha HF screwdriver sets I've flipped every type they've had hanging on racks (before the Quinn release) Just as an FYI they all sold too, even the free ones :spit:

Another GJC member just recently shared this video with me from another thread :D

Interesting this is the second video I seen just this weekend where the reviewers felt the older offerings were generally a better package the other was the new air compressor

I forgot to mention , I like the red clear and white ones the best. I grabbed a set of those rubberized red and black handles ,the ones that have a triangular shaped handle. After using them I really don’t care for those that much. You have a nice grip but when you’re spinning them it just doesn’t work well with your hand IMHO.

I just have the $2.99 2 piece sets and that came out pretty good... the grip on the screws ...

the 15 piece set just look like the Husky one I have... the handle is a bit different... but the tips are almost the same HF and Husky... I like the performance of both... I would probably get one if I some how run through all my screw driver sets.... they always seems to walk away from me.

for those with a doubt, I say try their two piece set when it is on sale for $2.99... I wasn't disappointed... and NO, I am not advertising for them... It just happened I was there for the free magnet bar and saw it for $2.99, needed an item to purchase... pretty satisfied so far....

Hey OP,
Check out Brad's Workbench youtube video. He gives his opinion of them compared to other screwdrivers.

I've heard the Pittsburgh Pro hard handle ones are around the same quality as the Craftsman ones. Don't know about the Quinn.

Great guys, thanks for all the feedback. I’ll pick up a set of the pros and supplement with open stock for my truck toolbag. I appreciate all the feedback!

I am not in the store enough to know one from another but bought 3 a while back 2 1/4 and a bigger one, super great as far as I can tell. 1.50 a piece, sharp tip, big fat handle with ID Mark on the top.
Not sure why I would buy anything else.

I've been using the Quinn set since Christmas. I have a set of Husky Diamond that I really like and I also have a set of USA Craftsman Pro. I really feel like the Quinn are on par with both of those. I've been using just the Quinn to really get a good feel for them.

I neglected to mention it before but if you’re still near a Sears just watch slick deals for the text code to get a $7 off $7 coupon and you can get some of their screwdrivers dirt cheap. Whether or not they’re better I dunno, but I’ve got tons of screwdrivers and have plenty I got that way.
