I jumped into the Series 3 56” box during the 12 days sale. Slowly but surely moving into it from a series 1 44” box. I am struggling with the oversized depth drawers. I did buy the power drawer add on to make better use of the extra deep drawer. I really cannot find the right mix of tools to fill up the bottom drawer. I think I’ve come up with an interim solution for the second to the bottom, medium depth drawer, but I’m gonna need to come up with some different types of holders for my air tools to really optimize space.

Has anyone added a 27“ top box to a 44 or 56 or larger? It looks like the 27” drawers are a bit shallow and may help me with storing many of my mechanical tools that were in the older style 44. I don’t mind giving up some bench top if I can get some more dense storage. A 27 inch bottom does not seem to gain you nearly enough shallow drawers. If anyone doubted a smaller hf top box to a large roller. I’d love to see pictures.

I added the 27" bottom to my 56" and a locker. I like to pile **** up on horizontal surfaces so nothing on top.

And putting the batteries & chargers in the drawer above ?

I bought a 56" & 42" top/bottom with locker last fall. If you want some ideas on layout, feel free to check out mine. If you have any questions, just ask.

FWIW, I also have a 27" top/bottom as well.

I had a 27 top on a 56 bottom with a locker for a while, but all series 2 stuff. I think the series 2 boxes had more thin drawers for the 27 box than the newer series 3 does. Might help if you can find a series 2 cheap. Mine was mostly chisels, small hammers and overflow screwdrivers, etc.

I upgraded to the series 3 56 bottom for the full width drawers. I think it will allow me to condense my sockets and wrenches from 4 drawers to hopefully 2. I used the 2 bigger drawers above the bottom drawer for hammers and pliers stored on edge in wire racks. I had blow molded cases in there for a while as well and grinders and the like.

This is what I’ve wondered about when looking at these boxes. What would I do with all of the deep drawers? I like more shallower drawers than a few deep drawers. I do like the power drawer. It would keep my power tools safe in a shop setting. I plan to build a Shelf/rack for my battery tools/chargers/batteries.

The box is great, but like you I previously kept all of my drills and impacts on a French cleat style bracket above the box out of the way. I don’t think I’ll mind having them in the drawer, but the two deep drawers next to it don’t seem like there’s an easy way to make use of the space with typical hand tools. Right now, I’ve shuffled some air tools into one of the drawers and it seems to work pretty well. The other one I’ve tossed in some blow molded tap and die sets, but it still feels really disorganized.

I was thinking that the 27 inch top chest seems to have more shallow drawers that would be very beneficial for screwdrivers, punches and chisels, and precision measuring tools. Just wondering if anyone had anything set up like that. May have to drive through the show your toolbox thread and look at some of the 27 inch top boxes.
