HF socket guarantee Bullsh-t

Just went to HF to replace a socket. Noticed no more single sockets.
Asked the associate and was told they were doing away with the single socket sales.
I asked him what about the guarantee ? How would you replace my broken socket? He scratched his head and said I guess you'll get your money back.
So I'll get a 1.27 back , then what ? What good is a guarantee if you don't have the replacements?
Only thing I can say is F U , harbor freight .

I don't go to HF very often, but I've never seen loose sockets there. I assume you have the Pittsburg (province of China) Pro set w/ lifetime warranty. If I warranted a socket there I would take the whole set with me because I know they don't stock singles. They may not swap out the whole set to warranty a single socket, but they can't fight you on logic since there is no other choice. Still odd they don't at least have a program with the manufacturer to handle replacements, although having to go through that would **** too.

They always have had a place right in the socket section that held single sockets you could buy, for warranty you brought the broken socket in and they gave you another one.

^ There's your answer. My HF still had singles a few weeks ago ?

They'll just pull one from a full set and put the set on clearance. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
I wouldnt trust what some dumb associate tells me anyway. Speak with a manager if u have a question.

^^ I understand that, but what do expect from HF, world class service, workers are probably getting paid minimum wage and they sell average stuff.

Same here... still had them at mine as of this weekend. But seriously? Screw HF because your $1.27 socket can't be replaced and they're going to give you your money back? What did you want them to do if they're no longer stocking them? I can't imagine they sell many single sockets anyway when a whole set is so cheap. If I buy a tool truck part and it breaks, I want a replacement (or money back at worst), if a HF socket breaks, I'd just throw it out.

Thats how I feel, when I went down to Buffalo, I picked up the 8pc impact socket set for $9. If it breaks, like you said throw it out

At mine they would pull the replacement out of a new set, and throw the rest in the clearance/return bins for a discount (A laughable one).

Tell us why you bought a socket from HF to start with.

That's what I carry to the pick-n-pull type junk yards. That way if I lose a socket, set of pliers, ratchet etc. I'm not out a lot of $$$. They are also the tools I leave out in the open for quick simple home repair stuff or when the wife and/or kids need a screwdriver etc. The good stuff stays locked up.

My point was he bought a socket at HF because it was $1.27...without a single other worry in the World about it.

I, too, have bought single sockets at HF and didn't give a rip if I damaged them. I have 3- a 19mm deep, 1/2" drive that I used to get the crank pulley bolt loose on my truck and two 13/16" deep 1/2" drive sockets for my roadside emergency kits.

They will do what I want and I have less than $5 in all three.

If I had planned on using them 5 days a week, I would have bought Craftsman, Snap-On or Mac.

Or the whole row at HF of the sockets I need.

I don't know... because they're as good as any other Taiwanese sockets? Which is to say... pretty good and a heck of a good deal for the money? I mean seriously, I spent 2 or 3 times more on my morning cup of coffee than this socket cost.

It cost you more than 1.27 in gas to get to HF. LOLLOLOLOL:lol_hitti

If I were to drive 25 miles each way to harbor freight in my 15mpg F150, with gas at $3.29 a gallon, I would use about 10 dollars in gas.

I could drive the 4 miles to sears, get multiple tools, and spend the same money I would on gas and one HF socket! :pimpflash

more importantly than the socket, where are you getting gas at $3.29/gal? Its up to $4.29 in most places now...

You know what's hilarious? People always bag on Snap-on because it's "too expensive" and "the truck warranty means nothing because I can just drive to sears".

I have the exact same setup as you, I drive a 15mpg F-150, and am a 44 mile round trip from Sears, plus gas is $4 a gallon here.

In the one hour of time it takes me to drive to sears, plus the amount of gasoline it takes me to warranty a single Craftsman socket, I'd be out the cost of TWO Snap-on sockets, which I can get warrantied for essentially free. :lol_hitti

The Snap-on guy stops across the street from my work and calls me, I deduct from my mandatory daily break, and go meet him. Additionally, if I don't feel like meeting the Snap-on guy, I get one in my mailbox at no cost.

Din't know youse was the frackin' OP! :willy_nil

I'm not, but I can attest to the quality of the sockets as I own some, which is why I replied to you... do you own any? Also, if your question was only for the OP and not everyone, then maybe you should have sent a PM? ;)

I am a little confused I thought all HF stores were the same I guess not. The store I go to has a section of individual sockets in case you break one.

Funny thing but one day I asked the young man at the HF store if I had a bad socket and it was not marked with any name ; but I bought if from HF would he know it came from HF even without any name on it.

He said they could ID it and they would replace it but for some strange reason I suspect without a name I would be out of luck!

All for it! Gotta go with what is convenient and practical.

I was at my local HF last week and they had all their single sockets on clearance. I asked them what they would do about warranty replacements and I was told they would just pull the size needed out of another set and then put that set on clearance. If you think about it, it makes sense since they do not carry other types of bits as singles, i.e. torx bits, hex bits, or even extensions. I didn't think anyone has anything to worry about. All this was told to me by the cashier. If your sales associate doesn't tell you this then I would as for the manager because they have no idea what they are talking about.

I didn't even know you could warranty **** from Harbor Freight.

When I break a pittsburgh socket (and I have!), I usually throw them in the trashcan. I bought two sets of the same sockets for a reason. I knew they would break eventually.

The only problem is allot of the full sets are anodized color sockets, not the plane silver chrome. The HF I went had all their single sockets on sale for .97 cent. So if you exchange a whole set, expect for some of the deep sockets, they are color coded.

You know I just love tool snobs. Bust my balls about replacing a socket at harbor freight , that's about 2 miles from my house. Put I'm sure you would drive 10 miles for a replacement craftsman socket that's probally about the same quality. And not a big difference in price. It's the point if something has a warranty , why not use it.

dont feel bad man.. from a store perspective either there rolling out a warranty exchange program that gets shipped right to store and they grab an "out of package" socket for you, or they have such little warranty returns that they feel confident enough in there "as is" program to damage out full sets. its interesting we will see

They have full lines of sockets in both color coded and all chrome...

It only says,"lifetime warranty on all handtools" on every flyer they have had since I have shopped their(4 years). I cant vouch for the chrome sockets quality, but I can definately vouch for their pro impact sockets; I beat the **** out of those things, and they work same as my matco, cornwells.

Your balls didn't get busted because you bought a socket at HF. They were busted because you were bitching about a $1 socket that you bought in the first place because it was dirt cheap, relatively reliable/accurate and knew that if you lost it or broke it, it was no big deal.

If it is true that HF is in fact getting rid of the loose sockets, I don't like it any better than the next guy. I enjoyed being able to slip in there and get a one-off socket if I needed it and be able to do so with less than $2.

But such is life. You can't expect everything to be available for the rest of your life. You want it? Get it when it's available. Hell, HF might close up and go out of business next week. You never know.
