Any thoughts on the HF spot welders?

I don't have access to 240, so it would be the 120V version.

Thanks

When I used to build guns a LOT of people would use them when building AK47 etc.. receivers. I've never heard issues with them.

The spot welder of choice for AK builds! it will stick two pieces of 1mm steel together very well!

I've read one of the two (perhaps the 240) is the same as the Miller, both made overseas in the same factory. Google it. :)

I have had the miller versions and like them
I like the 240v version I have now better than the 110v version I used to have.
But that's for me doing automotive stuff

I have a 240V with no badging at all. I bought it used and although the vendor said it is a Miller I am quite sure it's from HF or a similar retailer. Anyway, it works great ... and it LOOKS like a Miller!

I think the 110V's look the same so if you're buying used and it is unmarked like mine it would be best (always is) to get a demonstration from the vendor.

I have a Miller 240v and the Harbor Freight 120v spot welders. I do not believe for a second that they are of the same manufacturer but that being said the little 120v HF has proved to be a great machine. Mine gets some pretty heavy use and has performed flawless.

Here's my CL find for today.

Looks like the tips may need to be dressed, but I plugged it in and did a few test welds.

Need to download the manual, although I don't know if It will do me any good considering it's from HF.

Will need to dream up a project.

I have a few questions on the use of this HF Spot welder.

It's the first time I've used one, and I'm not sure about how long to hold the trigger.

Are the tips supposed to get cherry red? Only the bottom one is getting red.

Is it normal for the main body to get hot? Not welding hot, but hot to the touch.

How often do you need to clean/resurface the tips?

Thanks
