HF Tire Changer Demounting Lever Mods?

So I've been looking for ideas to mod my HF Tire changer using cut pieces from nylon cutting boards to prevent the rims from getting scratched and I have found some useful info on adding nylon to the bead breaker, but very little info about modding the demounting / mounting bar. (Yes I know about the awesome yet expensive "Mojolever and the No-Mar" tools but was hoping for some cheaper DIY ideas.)

Umm, me too? Keep looking and thinking, but so far haven't done anything.

What kind of tires are you mounting/unmounting with the manual HF tire changer? Someone's selling one for $30 near me but no longer have motorcycles and thought bigger tires would be a bear to change. My truck has 32" muds, the car has low profile rubber-band tires.

As for nylon they sell the no-mar nylon pieces with a string attached that you can slide around the bead as you work you way around. They're for motorcycle tires and hand tools but could work. Just a thought.

I don't bother with any of the bars.

Simple tire spoons work well. The Ken tool ones work great, and are cheap. I have sprayed plastic coating on the ends before. But really, just pay attention to wear you pry. With a set of rim protectors, it is easy and no scratches.

I did 18" low profile BMW tires last week, no problem.

A couple tricks;

-Put a piece of rubber (or whatever) on the mounter, and put the wheel on the machine up side down. Any scratches will be on the inside of the wheel.

-Let the tires sit in the sun....or inside. Warm makes a huge difference.
