You've inspired a lot of us here on the GJ to do something similar- ; I built mine with (4) 46" Husky cabinets and (2) 25-door locker cabinets.

I want to make a Steevo island with my HF boxes back to back. Would like to also put retractable casters on it. Been noodling this in my head for some time.

I have two sets of the Steevo double box benches. Can't say enough good about them. Wish they were the newer deep boxes, but oh well. I have had the use of them all that time. I took the same basic design and built a firewood stand for the deck.

I did this with back to back 36" gym lockers. Made a great work island but failed on the mobility issue.
It's been 12 years, and we're still plagiarizing your work. Outstanding!

I have a inherited Snap On 2-piece toolbox & a 56" Craftsman top box that I got a killer deal on at Lowes It was on clearance & it has a small dent in the lid. I made a stand for out of 2x4's & 3/4" plywood, & I have a oak butcherblock top work bench. Nothing fancy, just functional.

+1 for Jack's 12 Gauge Garage! Way back when I first started lurking around Garage Journal, Jack's awesome use of space and highly efficient designs for his infrastructure really wowed me. I studied his work, and enjoyed his artistic execution on something as simple as a table frame. And what he did within the space of a two-car garage is impressive to say the least.

Steevo and those of you who have been inspired by his design: how does this set up work for you in terms of drawer access while working at the bench? Does accessing the drawers in front of you cause constant shuffling about as you work, or is the immediate access natural and helpful?
I'm thinking about a 2 box version in my small garage and I'm concerned that the drawers may get in the way while I'm working, particularly perched on a stool (sit down, need a tool immediately in front of me, get up, retrieve tool, sit down, wrong damn tool, get up, repeat).

The Red glow under your upper cabinets is killer!I plan to make my Steevo with my Yeller box’s 1-56 & 2-44’s was interested in the new series 3 - 56 but it doesn’t match w/ black handles …
Not sure what color to paint the frame & I want to repaint the garage interior ….
The laugh is from my own experience. Forced me into taking the whole socket tray etc. to the work point. Inefficient but less frustrating!

Browse through Paco's, @fnieto thread as he built one several years ago that looks like it works well.
I haven't seen Paco on the forum for quite a while, but his workbench/toolbox combo is pretty cool.

We keep the liquor and beer in the garage fridge next to my ice maker, which means …. Cocktails with my buddies!
Led RGB lights are awesome!

Dental Floss also works.
You can make a Knee hole in between the2 box’s or an over hang on one end.
the knee hole becomes a good place to stash a shop vac or a low seat

I have an 8ft bench with my HF44" occupying the right half of under-bench space, with my vice also on top of the same corner. I normally work in the middle so all drawers are in easy reach of my right hand without me having to move much (if at all). If I had dual 44s I could imagine it being a fit frustrating due to the situation you describe.
Between the upper Husk cabinets, the wall-mounted HF parts bins next to the door and the various bins on the fastrack wall, I still have probably 20% remaining free space in my 44. I slightly regret not grabbing a black Series 2 15" side cabinet to mount in place of the fridge while they were still available, as I think a 44 and 15 mounting on opposite ends w/ stool space in between would be an ideal 8ft bench setup.
Can't believe it's been 4 years since I built this bench. LOTS of work done here since then. Everything from rebuilding my 5spd trans to fixing Christmas Lights. It's due for a good dusting/cleaning.

I always thought about using tool cabinets for kitchen cabinets. With cost of kitchen cabinets buying store bought or custom made, HF would be cheaper.

A buddy used a couple of new craftsman rollers for sink cabinets in his huge garage/shaops bathrooms (yes plural ladies and gentlemen - the front simulated an old gas station with island and pumps.

I've ,mentioned this before, but I built in a machinist's cabinet with shallow doors in my wife's bathroom behind the decorative doors. She keeps trays of this and that organized and can lock it. It's bolted down without the casters so it would not be an easy ****** and grab. It has 9 drawers in a 42" height. I mean this was really economical compared to filling that space with lots of custom shallow drawers. And the lock!
