Did I miss something? I thought HF sold smaller utility trailers? Did HF stop selling their trailers recently? I Don't see them on their web page or in my new catalog.

Maybe I was just imagining they sold trailers. :dunno:

I heard they pulled them back because they didn't have DOT approved lights. Something about the side markers. I presume they'll be back once somebody in Shanghai sticks the right lights in the boxes.

They are having tire troubles. There is recall on them. I just got my notice to bring mine in. Bought my trailer about 2 years ago. Maybe 3 ??
They stopped selling the trailers at least 6 months ago.
Nada clue if they will start to sell them again.

I bought one of those folding 4x8 HF trailers. Have used the heck out of it over the last three years. First hauling camping stuff down here to WV when we lived in OH, then hauling two 55 gallon plastic barrels to haul water from town to our storage tank at least a couple times a week, then moving all our belongings from Cleveland to WV along with building materials every weekend for the last six months.

That said, the original tires didn't last long. Replacements from Walmart did a little better.

The paint is ****.

Still the best $250 I ever spent.

On mine the bolt holes on the tongue support did not line up. I just welded it instead. Its ok, but I only use it around the house. Mostly as a welding trailer.

Bought mine when I only had Accura sedan. Added a hitch and bought the trailer. Went togeather easy, but used 3/4" ply instead of 1/2" ply, so it does not close up flush when folded. At some point will take the deck sheets off and rout a 1/4" off were ever the sheets sit on framing.
With that said the trailer has served me well. Made lots of lumber runs with it. Bought a new garden tractor and used the trailer to haul it home across town. The tilt bed was fantastic for loading the garden tractor.
I have only used the trailer once since trading the Accura for a Nissan Titan pick up.
There area lot of Teardrop trailers built on top of the HF trailers. Any have upgraded the wheel bearings (another marginal item) and added much better tires.
Although I do not have very much use for the trailer (having a p.u.) I it is worth hanging on to. It is stored under the back patio out of the elements.

I am somewhat surprised how often I use it, even though I have a FS pickup. Of course, the pickup is a 6.5 foot bed.

It's almost always easier to haul 4x8 sheets in the trailer. Having the trailer often means I can make one trip instead of two.

The best part is that I can unhook the trailer and park it. So if I get a load of drywall and get home and need something else, I don't have to either 1) unload it all first or 2) haul the whole load all the way back to the store and then back home again. I just unhitch the trailer and the tow vehicle is free for other duty.

The folding trailer has one other disadvantage I hadn't mentioned before. The tongue is short. On a long chassis vehicle (like my extended cab pickup) it is a pain to back up. The trailer turns markedly faster than the truck and it's difficult to see until it's already heading in the wrong direction. You have to significantly overcorrect with the truck or the trailer will jackknife. If I keep the truck, I'll be extending the tongue on the trailer.

My wife's Escape with its short wheelbase is a near perfect match to the HF trailer

I expect they will likely use the tire recall as a good stopping point to rebrand them, new color, and upscale the marketing and price as they have on most of the product lines recently.

Maybe they will be better too, but the existing trailers were pretty decent for the price if you were willing to put some time in to mod them to be what you want them for.

Yeah, the real purpose of the HF trailer was the COO which allowed me to get a license plate on it. Then you take the materials and use some of them to make the cheap trailer you want....

The recall letter is a bit vague to me. But how many people could remove the tire from the rim and then put a new one on, also considering this is a tubeless tire. Likely a lawyer that never got their hands dirty wrote the letter.
Posting the letter front and back side. Used a coupon that was handy and just the right size to cover my personal info.

Interesting. I bought a HF trailer 3-4 years ago and I didn't get a recall letter.

I got a recall letter last week. It was a replacement tire for a hand truck. I never bought a trailer there. They probably used the same tires on the trailers that they stocked as generic replacements in the store.

I haven't seen their low profile aluminum motorcycle jacks for a while either. I was planning to buy one.

I haven't gotten a letter for my HF trailer, bought last June. So far, so good, and I've used it a lot. I usually don't go far or fast, and the load is usually very light, although I did haul a load of gravel for a few miles. I made mine so it doesn't fold, bolting a bracket to reinforce the hinge area, and using a single sheet of plywood for the bed.

I have the 4x8 non-folding one (1700lbs payload?) It has 12" wheels. One tire is almost always flat as the valve stem leaks. I've had it replaced but I think there's a defect in the wheel because the stem is leaking again. I'd like to put better wheels on it (old 14" car wheels? I haven't checked the bolt pattern)

I did buy their LED light kit as well, which isn't bad -- plenty bright. I don't like dim trailer lights.

I've used mine to haul sheet goods like plywood as well as dimensional lumber, but for me the unexpected use was behind my riding mower as a large landscaping trailer.

l think my letter says the wheels have to be returned with inn 60 days.
This is a hell of a time of the year yo be having us do that.
I have my trailer outside full of snow.
You have 60 days to file a complaint with NHTSA if you feel that replacing the tire isn't enough.

I was just down at the rocky mount NC store and they had one on display in the store with the slips for you to purchase one. Not sure If they actually had any other than the display model but I would assume they would display it if they were able to sell them

I bought spare tires for my trailer(Nuway) last year but I haven't received any letter. When I bought them, they went through an elaborate process writing down the S/N of each tire and the Vin for each wheel. When did they send the letters out....????

Tried to buy one in nov but there was a DOT notice in the store, grabbed a better utility trailer off CL for 200.
The HF ends up costing more when you add the finish material required plus typical lighting upgrades .

I bought one just before the recall went out apparently, and took my time assembling it so it wasn't registered until mid-end November. Haven't received a notice, but I'll swing by a store with the wheels at some point.

I bought mine years ago and is not part of the recall.
I will say though, that I returned 2 sets of wheels when I bought mine. The third set finally turned true and did not wobble.

Is that what's going on? Crooked rims?

No, the recall is on the tires.

But for any future HF trailer buyers, be sure to spin the wheels and check how true they spin once you get things assembled.

Thanks.
Ya know, I'v yet to spin the wheels to check for true.
Since getting a pickup, don't use the trailer a lot.
