I saw in the Harbor Fright flyer that just came in the mail that they have a 7000 lb symmetric floorplate two post lift, item #68482, on sale for $1399.99, regular price of $2299.99. I looked on the web page, and had to enter the item number to find it, or use this link:

http://www.harborfreight.com/7000-lb-symmetric-floorplate-two-post-vehicle-lift-68482.html

They have the normal price, so I'm not sure how you'd get the $900 off price, but it's worth sharing.

Don't bother asking me any questions about it. I don't know, and can't afford one right now. Plus, I'm holding out for a MaxJack.

Would you really feel safe under a lift from HF???????????????

Yeah, never been in one yet, but they probably are big enough corporately, that if something were to happen in the Litigious States of America, they would get their @sses sued off...

I think they would have checked it out....

I would question why anyone would want a new lift for a hobby shop, and dont try and say that a pro shop is going to be buying something like that from HF. Nice used lifts can be easily had under $1k at every shop auction Ive ever been to, and given an excuse, quite a bit less.

In 2008 when GM and Chrysler closed so many dealerships, almost new Bendpaks were selling for $200/each at quite a few of the auctions. Going back ten or so years ago now, Penske had a deal with Kmart?, Walmart?, to operate their tire/service shops. I remember when the deal fell through my old man bought a four post with bridge lift that was less than 6 months old (entire shop was) for $150.

lifts are made by Torin Mfg, a china company. They look like a bendpak copy of the xl7

I would say those numbers are cheap. In the Atlanta area, with all the closed dealers, the lifts were running from $1000 to $2000 for the most part. Lift installers (and those who pretended to be) (and anyone trying to make a buck) were going to the auctions and buying up all of them, and selling them off. From what I could see, it was difficult for an individual to get just one lift from a closed dealership. They just about all showed up on CL eventually. I'll bet it really hurt the large lift manufacturers biz for a year or so.

Several of the buyers at auctions were buying them, and then turning around and putting them on CL and when you called you got the "well its still installed at such and such a location and we have to set a time and date to have someone meet you to unlock the building and you only have a couple of hours to get it out, and ........" I called on some of those ads and that was what I got every time.

The manual is very well spelled out on what to do and what not to do. Their warning stickers are funny.

Figured I would look up where BendPak lifts were manufactured. Found this, might be interesting to some.

Why did BendPak start manufacturing offshore?
In today’s global marketplace, BendPak is forced to continually search for best possible manufacturing options and locations. Options and locations that give our customers the best value. If BendPak is to survive, we must acknowledge and respect global pricing for similar products.

Consumers will pay more for name brands, high quality, elevated service, and proven designs, but few are willing to do so if priced 40% - 60% higher. Our approach to overseas manufacturing is based on the needs and demands of our customers. We’re giving them what they want. We focus on doing everything we can to deliver a product that exceeds every quality expectation at a price they demand.

Why is my new lift now labeled with Made in China?
Ever since 9-11, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and Department of Homeland Security continues to impose stricter country of origin marking laws. According to current country of origin laws, a product claimed to be Made in USA must use raw materials and assembly parts that are "all or virtually all" produced in the U.S. "All or virtually all" means the product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content.

In our industry, steel and other assembly components may represent 60% of the product value. In today's global environment it is impossible for BendPak to entirely source domestic raw materials and parts.

So does anyone actually have any facts about bendpack lifts or is this just gratuitous basing for the sake of bashing?

I've never heard of a bendpack failure.

Bendpak is a good lift, never heard of a Bendpak failure. Nor have I heard of a Torin failure for that matter, or a failure of the many HF jackstands in use...

Anyone that would buy a lift made in china would buy a car made in japan.

My Greg (the customer is not always right) Smith Equipment lift was made in China. I work beneath it everyday. My vehicles are all made in Britain.

All the folks bashing this lift, how many of you have even seen one, much less touched one?

If this same logic were applied to nearly anything else, the people making such statements with no background would be called prejudiced or racist. But, this is the internetz where everyone, regardless of their knowledge or lack thereof can make whatever silly statement they'd like.

Lifts fail. it happens. whats important is that the fail safes dont fail. We had 3 Rotary failures this past year. 2 were in ground 2 posts where the ram punched through the cylinder, and the third was a cable failure on a 4 posts. Every time the locks caught the vehicle. These lifts are 10 years old and all 3 were the primary lifts that get used the most. They are maintained, and inspected frequently. Some failures you just cant see ahead of time . The cable failure was on a lift that was inspected a week before, it showed no signs of failure. The company that inspects them is in the business of fixing our lifts and selling us parts, theres no reason to suspect they missed a $900 repair bill for an hours worth a work.

With all that said there is no way in hell you would catch me under a lift from HF. Same goes for their jack stands. Not going to happen. My life is worth more than a measly $1000 or so saved. Like others have stated, pick up a used lift with a reputation for quality for the same price all day long. If you feel different then by all means, have at it.

Yes I have looked at and touched Chinese made Atlas lifts at Greg Smith in Delaware and would never work under one at anywhere near rated capacity. It was funny, I was in the Greg Smith Showroom looking at lifts and my wife actually asked why I was even consider getting one because they looked so flimsy(she already looked at bentpacks and mohawks with me before seeing the Atlas lift). The one at HF looks a lot like the one Greg Smith uses to show a complete lift failure, so I imagine it cant be better than theirs. I imagine your british made cars are not that heavy. I wound up getting a used Mohawk that came out of a closed Saturn dealership. Here is a friends 8,000 lb. truck up on mine. I had no concerns that the lift was going to fail. My life is worth the extra money.
At a minimum any lift worth considering should be ALI certified.

Are you serious that you have to work on your british cars every day!

Have looked at this and was wondering how many people that have said no to china lifts took a walk through there house and looked around? It's good if you have money pouring out of your pocket to buy USA.Me myself have to live within my means. That means going to wally world to buy food.Shopping to get gas 3 cents cheaper. And looking for coupons for pizza on sale during the weekends.
If I was going to get a lift it would have to be the best price I could find.
