I have one. My use for it is for removing exhaust systems by myself. The screw jack head makes it pretty easy to adjust the height and do light lifting - like the tailpipe end of the exhaust system.

It seems pretty sturdy and its wide base makes it pretty stable. It is heavy enough so it takes me two hands to move it. It it hard to slide across the floor.

IMHO good value if you don't need anything fancy.

I will say they are better than nothing, but if you are doing anything where you need to work around it, you will be better off with the pedestal type. If are looking for extra stability, either buy a welded tripod style like OTC makes or weld up your Harbor Freight versions. It will settle a bit each time you use it if you only use the supplied hardware. What kind of work do plan to do with it?

personal automotive use in my garage...not a shop...exhaust, hold up rear of trans, hold one side of the rear end while maybe moving control arms.

We've got those at work, hate how much space they take up, also, replace the hardware. Other than that they are ok.

We used tall stands extensively working in a shop that had all 2 post in-floor hoists. We used the front post to R&R FWD engine/trans/subframe assemblies while two tall stands supported the front of the vehicle. They're handy for many things. Ours were quite a bit huskier than the HF units.

Some plate for a base, 2" pipe for an upright and 1 1/2" acme all thread + nut = stronger, more compact and cheaper.

Bump ---

I just bought 2 of these HF units to use in my grease pit. They were my only option because they are the only ones that reach up over 90 inches. The single-post stands are too short. I have my car lifted up on jack stands over the pit and I need remove the rear axle and lower the axle down and move it out past the rear of the car. Two of these stands will reach up to the axle from the bottom of the pit and lower it enough for two people to grab and shift to the rear.

Even in the pit I am able to work around them, although they take up a good bit of space. But beware that they have a significant limitation: The screw jack part is actually pretty short. Only about 10 inches. The rest of the lift is done by lifting the post and pushing a through-pin into a hole. So unlike the single-post stands, which can lower things about two feet, you can't use these to lower something heavy very far.
