Well, I decided to go in and grab a blue end cabinet to accompany my 44" US General box. I was SHOCKED that they had one in stock today and was expecting that there would be a significant wait to order one in.

Anyhow, with the 10% off it ended up being $216 +tax which IIRC, is pretty close to what they used to sell for at full price. These US General boxes continue to move up in price and with the limited coupons that apply to them, the new normal price is $500 for the lower, $330 for the upper and $240 on the end cabinet. So, at full retail this thing is now $1070+tax for what's pictured below. I'm not really near that number as I bought the lower used, the upper before the last price jump and with coupon and then the end cabinet with 10% today. For what I have into it I'm comfortable with the quality and bang for the buck... with that I think HF might be approaching the price level that alternatives might start being more attractive.

I'm not sure that any of the 3 pieces came from the same manufacturing plant. The top and bottom are similar but have some slight differences that lead me to believe they might be out of different plants... their model numbers are 64444 lower and 64440 upper. The end cabinet #64450 is certainly a different build than the other 2, the metal gauge is thinner, slides are cheaper, etc. I'll probably follow-up with other things I notice, once I get things set-up.

BTW all of them had zero damage when purchased which is nice, as the 26" combo I purchased previously had some bumps and bruises.

Anyways. here is the money pic:

I've thought about hanging one of those off the side of my 26" box. Not sure how stable it would be, though.

no idea why they couldn't of kept these 18" wide .
Is spendy for tiny drawers but can be handy expansion or custom project use .
Differing factories producing these boxes is an issue as quality/match differs drastically .
They still a fairly good buy but not the steal that was with super coupons gone .

I had forgotten that they used to be wider... at the same time, I think they were only 18" deep. So, with the new versions being 22" deep, the volume is probably close to the same. Not sure???

The drawers themselves are 12" wide and the depth is 19.5", which is about 1/4" less than the measurement on the cabinet and chest that I have. I have confirmed that the end cabinet (drawers) are thinner metal than what is on my chest and cabinet. Also, although the slides are cheaper in appearance on the end cabinet, I do get pretty much full extension on the drawers vs. the chest and cabinet that both stop about 1.5" from being fully extended. I do like that I can swap the drawers around on the end cabinet regardless of the height, as pictured I have a double on the top.

I don't know, I'm happy with the extra capacity but I would feel better if it was like the old coupon days when these were well south of $200.

Stealing from width just because deeper is a bit off, I assume keeping smaller width made it possible use thinner steel allowing manufacture cost low .
If the build consistency was equal and they got rid of those stupid plastic pull latches and kept some common spares stocked current higher prices seem more acceptable .
super coupon days of the series 2 boxes was best value it got in this box sector, doubt see matching value again .
Shame all the boxes didn't allow drawer repositioning, HF really needs make most of simple design and manufacture changes to keep market appeal and show they got some effort going into the product line .

I've bought 2 HF boxes new, a 44 and a 56 because I needed something quickly.
I've been very pleased purchasing used ones of CL or MP. usually pay $400-$450, which is what I paid new 7 years ago.
I haven't bought one in a few years, so I'm not sure where they're at now.

Here is 2x 56, 3x 44 + 1 side drawer. About $2200 invested, not including the black one in the middle (not racist, honest) that one was about $900.

I got one of these that was slightly dented on the back corner but otherwise no damage.. had 25 bucks in store credit and paid 9 bucks cash... hung it on my 26” box.. I don’t roll my box around so the wobble it adds is not an issue but man I like having the extra space and now have a little work surface too... IMO... well worth the money

I'm waiting to see if the side lockers come back in stock. I don't need a the side cabinet yet for my 44" since I also still have my old Craftsman 26" roller cabinet and top, but the locker would be nice to have.

I flip flopped back and forth between the end locker and end cabinet... I finally just gave in and bought the end cabinet as the lockers still haven't come back into stock and my patience ran out.
