HF US General 56" Cabinet

I don't know if I'm late to the game to notice but it looks like Harbor Freight has discontinued the top cabinet for the 56" US General box? I have two Snap On boxes that see heavy usage rolling around at work but honestly at home in the garage where they never move I have the US General stuff. I've been pretty happy with it.

Believe it or not though I recently ran out of room in the 72" roller cab I purchased two years ago. So many tools whoops :willy_nil. I went to the store I usually go to today with the intent to buy the 56" roller cab with the top box. I couldn't find the top box anywhere in the store and one of the sales guys mentioned he thought it was discontinued. He didn't know if there was any replacement coming either or when it had happened (I haven't been to a HF store in 3-4 months so who knows). So I only left with the bottom cabinet which stinks.

So this begs my next question, have any of you guys mix and matched this lower cabinet using top cabinets from other brands?

I checked the website and see if it is still listed and the site does not show the top box for the 56" roller. It can mean 2 things they are replacing it or have discontinued it.

Do you have another Harbor Freight store in the area that you live I would check and see if they have any top boxes left.

No to jack your thread, since its kind of similar topic. Anyone knows of a side box that matches HF 56" box?

There was a thread here recently where the OP reported the top box for the 56 was discontinued and he bought the display model at a discount.

On every forum you are a member of searching should always come before posting. With that out of the way, I plan to go to my local HF to see if they have a 56" top box left...and if they do....how cheap I can get it.

Sorry Jon. I did do a search but my searching skills ****. In any future post on here I'll make a lot better effort. Apologies again.

To reply to others, I've checked 3 other stores so far today (within an hours driving distance of where I live) and they report the same. The last one I went to, the guy was able to check the computer somehow and said in the North East at any of the stores there are none. So I guess that's that.

The next step is to research similarly sized top boxes to fit on the bottom one I bought.

LXCAM - I'm in Maine so unfortunately that's probably out. I bet the shipping would be killer on it too.

The search feature here ***** anyway. Instead, go to google and type in "site:garagejournal.com Harbor Freight 56 discontinued" or such. That should get you what you're looking for.

No need to apologize!!

I always do an advanced search. Typed in "Harbor Freight 56" and selected titles only....and BOOM!!

My local HF has a display 56" top and I asked the manager if they were discounted because they were discontinued. He knew nothing about them being disc, and said the price on the tag ($409) was the price I would pay.

I am tempted to call the customer service and see if I can work some magic. Do I really NEED a 56" setup...no. But damn if it wouldn't be nice to stare at in the garage. That setup is HUGE!! :scared:

The 56" top box in the Mt. Vernon, Washington store shown in pictures. I am sure I can get under $300.00 talking to the manager. I do not need it but I might grab it if I can get it under $300.00. This top box is not as abused as I seen others as the store has been only opened since November.

I'm in the market for a 56" top & bottom box. What turns me off from the 56" US general is the complete waste of space that is under the top lid. My US General 41/44 has enough height to store all my sockets. The 56" top lid area isn't even tall enough to store wrenches. Its a major design flaw. All competing boxes now have power strips and enough top lid space for just about anything. This is why I will probably go with the new 24" deep Masterforce 56" box. Way more top lid storage area with a built in power strip and usb charging and a choice of 3 colors.

It says right in the brochures the top area is for nudy mags only.

That 56" top and bottom setup is massive!! It would be a great addition to any garage.

The current 56" top is discontinued. We should be seeing a new one late March/ early April. It is looking like it will be similar to the new blue boxes that they released a few weeks ago.
