My view would be are you going to use it several times a week or several times a year......if its the latter, the extended warranty will most likely run out before anything breaks but if you are really going to use them hard then they can be worth it for sure. I bought one and declined the warranty but I intend to use it several times in the warranty period......after that it will most likely only be used a few times a year (if that) but I do come into impact-needed work every once in awhile.

I've been using mine 1-2x a week for the last 5 years without issue.
Never ever buy protection plans or extended warranties!! These scams are often the highest margin products retailers sell!!
Take the money you would normally spend on these schemes and put it in a separate account. Out of that account pay for any repairs or replacements that the extended warranty would normally pay for.
After a few years you will have built up a huge balance!!

I talked to a contractor at HF who has mostly HF tools for his crew all with the extended warranty. He swears by his method of buying many extra tools (5 drills instead of 3) and he gets the ex warranty on all of them. He has extra so that the crew won't be short on tools when they break down. Having multiple extras means that there is no rush to get them replaced but that using them heavily means that at some point they will need to be replaced and thus worth the investment for the warranty.

not always the case with HF power tools
I paid the extra 10 bucks for my cheap portaband, and used it right at the 1 year mark. so it saved me 50 bucks.I kno you already got the gun but how much do they cost ? The last time I bought a ir231 99$ was 20 years ago it still works great and served 10 years in a truck shop . mine was almost well taken care of and my step dad had one a few years older and it was never even oiled and lasted till he died then diss appeared
My question is really are u saving anything by buying a 5 year tool as opposed to A lifetime tool .
I do buy all my die grinders air ratchets ect from hf but those are 10$ .
I had a Mac 220$ air ratchet and a Matco they are broken but I still have 2 cheap air ratchets a 20$ works great and a c man
I have a broken blue point 1/2 gun and a snappy mg725 which I like but I bet my ir231 will outlast that too

the gun i got for 75 bucks, the guy used a 25% off a single item cupon for me, so it was a great deal, works great with my compressor and so far has taken off everything if thrown at it with ease. It was more of a timely purchase as i was going to wait for the ir231 but my old impact just stopped altogether. its not a daily use item but when it gets used it gets used hard.
Idk i guess ill just wing it, i had the $35 hf impact last 4 years before letting go and was ok for certain things. hopefully it lasts (knock on wood).
Saving up the 'would be' spent money for it sounds like a great idea, can you get replacement parts for one of those guns? if so where would you get them or send it. id like to avoid sending it to where my matco tools go, that place can get can get pricey.
that $35 'composite' one, that's pretty underrated. I got one before I decided to spend the money on the earthquake. Not as strong but definitely the best gun cheaper than the Earthquake that's for sure. Much nicer than my buddy's husky and the Kobalt I had before.
I don't buy HF extended warranties except for the welder. Not sure I would again. Maybe on something REALLY expensive from there (by HF standards) but for now I'm not convinced of the value.

I wish someone could convince my wife of this.... she's good at finding things to pissaway money on.... she just bought a $30 extended warranty on a $75 toaster! The only good thing about it is that it's for 7-years and we've been getting about 5 out of the last couple of toasters we've had... but who repairs toasters anymore?! I can remember when I was a little kid my grandparents taking their electric appliances the neighborhood repair shop to get repaired, but that was 60-some years ago! Are they even going to be still making this model in 7-years?!
