I watch most of these show regularly because that's what she likes to watch. I actually enjoy making fun of all the inaccuracies and dumb comments from the "homeowners".

The worst one to date, we watched last night: Flipping Virgins. The couple had absolutely no idea what they were doing, couldn't believe a home built in the 1920s needed electrical work, and wanted to make horrible decisions. In fact I'm 99% sure their kitchen layout would not allow for the oven door to open because they stuck it in a corner.

I also love the fact the guy on Flip or Flop is always showing up on the jobs sites in flip flops.

I've seen that tool bag as well.

Between him and all the shows where the guys are in fitted button down shirts and khakis doing demo work, it's pretty ridiculous.

Another one I forgot to mention, the other night they were of course taking out a wall in an older home. Pretty sure the plan was to refinish the original hardwood floors. Once they knocked a hole in the wall, they literally threw the 12lb. sledge through the wall and it landed on the floor. That was smart!

If the programs on HGTV actually showed what goes on during a legitimate home improvement project, it would be too boring for 95% of people to watch. The same thing goes for almost all other reality shows.

A friend of mine worked briefly on that Nat Geo show "Bid & Destroy" about the demolition company in NH. He said it was mostly all staged and the the stuff they "found" in houses was placed there for effect.

While all these home improvement shows are pretty trashy, I still watch them at times.

What I'd REALLY want to watch is the 'Between the takes' show. Let's see the real setup behind the lights and cameras, to the teams of workers that are usually kept out of site. Let's hear about the drama like the camera crew is late, or the show talent is having a fit because someone ate the last maple bar. Let's see what happens when the city's building inspector pops in for a visit. Or the police show up to say that you can't park 30 vehicles on the street. Or one of the sponsor's tools aren't showing up enough in the shots, let's stage some footage with the brand label in view, reshoot this bit.

A behind the scenes show would be far more interesting.

That's a great idea. Let's challenge GJ-ers to do some 'drive by' videos and post them if they know of these shows being shot in their area. Canada and the West Coast seem to get the most coverage, definitely not Huntsville, Texas tho.
