Hi folks I came across this forum, searching for welding info. I am a electroplater and a hobbyist. I am wanting to build a wearable Ironman armour in aluminium. So I thought a place like this would be the right fit for a guy who is looking for answers...GM

Murdoch: i'm not sure that has ever been done so i'll be happy to look in on a thread with that subject that you might put in the fabrication forum. also if you do start a thread maybe put a link to it in your sig line so you can lead more members to it when you leave a post on other threads. do you have a version of the Ironman suit on Cad or measured out yet?

how good of a welder are you and what unit(S) are you planning to use for the aluminum welding?

welcome

He he he I have absolutely no experience, and that's why I want to do it. I took a goldsmithing course and I have a certain skill set...GM

Just to explain. Please forgive my boldness in regards to this project. I do not have experience in welding this is true, but I am going to learn. I have no files. But I will start a research thread. I just have to figure where to post the thread lol...GM

Murdoch: we can both learn to weld together then because it's on my list too for other reasons. i like old tools and want to be able to fix anything before i leave this world.

here's the part of our forum you can start a thread, but before you do that might i suggest reading some welding threads and finding out the information that is already available. ask questions on those threads that already have members following them and you'll get more response maybe than being a new member starting a thread unless you want to keep posting picture and asking questions to keep your thread in the front page. click on this link to get started.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=29

there might be hundreds and maybe thousands of threads about welding so find the good ones and ask for help here or on those threads if you need any.

i like your enthusiasm and if you are willing to learn this forum has members that are willing to help if you are sincere.

cheers and here's one old welder i bought so if i ever get 3 phase i can weld any piece of steel i want to (i'm told that anyway).

Murdoch: might i suggest you put a link to your new thread in your signature line in your profile so if some member wants to see it all they have to do is click instead of search for it because there are hundreds if not thousands of threads in that section.

i like your enthusiasm and your project sounds interesting so best of luck. maybe start trying to locate companies that do fabrication work with aluminum so you can buy some out of their scrap bin for pennies on the dollar because even at scrap prices your project wont be cheap.

Murdoch: I found your thread with your link and only had time to read the first couple posts and already amazing. you sent your drawing to Germany for a 3D image of the helmet then he sent the image to a guy in New York with the 3D printers and then a 3D helmet(S) shipped to you. pretty cool so far and can't wait to get time to read more.

good luck and thanks for the link
