Hi Guys,

I have been utilizing your great blog for a while for all the great info and ideas. I am glad to finally be able to contribute. I recently moved into a new home and have picked up a new project, 56' F-100. I hope to one day put up some pics of the rebuild. Any information and tips is always appreciated.

Hi and welcome to GJ.

’56 Ford F-100, man that sure brings back memories. My friends and I had those trucks while in High School. I had one when I was 17, wish I still had it today, loved those old trucks. It had a small block Chevy w/auto trans and a custom diamond pleated interior…Lol, that was the rage back then. As a young kid with little money, couldn’t always do things the correct way, so had to find ways to improvise. With access to a oxy/acetylene torch and stick welder we used to torch the springs in order to drop the trucks just a few inches from the ground then cut the steering column down low. For virtually no expense, we thought that was so cool back then…Lol.

Yea, friends and I did a lot of rat-rod type **** back then and had a blast doing it!

Awh, the good ol' days! Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Good Luck with your build!

Welcome to The Garage from Oceanside (the armpit of the California Coast).

Back in the 90s when I was in USMC I would have definately agreed with that statement. I hadn't been back since then until a few months ago and boy was I surprised. What a turn around..... Maybe I just stumbeled onto a nice area of Oceanside? I didn't bother touring the town that much.

Yeah, they have. When I moved here in '94 from a pretty rough area in Santa Ana I had a little saying, "I feel safer walking around in Santa Ana at night than walking around Oceanside during the day". They did clean up the city quite a bit, got rid of the hookers on Hill Street, renamed a bunch of streets downtown (still don't understand how re-naming a street cleans it up), overall a much better place, but still a dump to me. Weather is nice though. Always nice to see the USMC in town.

I'm sad to say that my truck is not a custom cab. Not much of a cab at all actually, a good bit rotted out. I need to repair (I first need out to figure out how to repair) the drip line/roof, the roof has rusted back from the drip line. Those tri-five Chevys are beautiful.

Where in CA are you? It's a big state.

I am located in Walnut Creek, in the SF Bay area

That's a great walk down memory lane. I love to hear how people relate to these cars, the stories are amazing. Its funny how close we can get to our vehicles and the memories they bring back.
