Hi all,

I am an avid do-it-yourselfer and love working with tools. So disappointed that I didn't find a site like this 35 years ago when I was doing a bunch of work (general contracting, electrical, plumbing, finish carpentry) on what was then a new house. Of course, I can't be too hard on myself since the internet hadn't been invented yet :)

One of the features of this house is the dedicated shop that was built on the backside of the garage. I had started doing some woodworking in my previous house and really wanted a place to continue that interest. That shop has served me well over those 35 years.

We are pretty much done with brand new projects on the house, but instead are in the mode of fixing up what we have so we can put the house on the market sometime in the next 3 years or so. I spent part of yesterday in the attic installing a ventilation fan in a bathroom remodel on our 2nd floor. Happy to say that I am still able to get up there and manage not to fall through the ceiling. BTW, that bathroom remodel is in its 3rd year, but getting close to being done. The #1 thing I learned is that tiling really isn't my thing!

One project that has me in research mode is figuring out how to level a backyard shed. This was originally a playhouse for my kids when I built it about 25 years ago. Over the years the shed has settled and needs to be leveled. I will be posting details in the forums at some point soon - would like to get this done this summer, but unsure about how to proceed. It is one of those things that drives me nuts whenever I am out in the yard.

In the meantime, I am looking forward to looking through the great forums here and learning from all the experienced DIYers.

Mike

Welcome! You'll find a lot of useful things here. Good luck with that beautiful shed.

I had a shed that the front was sinking into the ground. The rear was supported by concrete pillars. I took a rather labor intensive approach. I dug down at the front corners, used hydraulic car jacks and lifted it above level, then dug out the entire front enough to put in a line of concrete blocks, topped by pavers. I lowered the shed down onto the blocks/pavers and it was level again. That was four years ago and it's still level.

Thanks for the welcome HalfTonTom!

Sounds like you had a similar situation with your shed. I put mine on 4x4 treated lumber sunk 42" below grade. I wouldn't have thought I would have an issue with it sinking. My solution might also be similar to yours.

As soon as it stops raining here and it warms up a bit more, I will take some photos, etc and officially make a post in the correct forum.
