Hi all. I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada and a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to tools and stuff.
My background has always been computer related. I'm a geek.
Last summer I took a course called Earthmoving. It consisted of training and licencing for a dump truck, used of an excavator and backhoe. Well that didn't finished until early fall and by that time most construction was slowing down.
So I got a job at the local shipyard as a labourer out of the Machine Shop. We work mostly ship repair and refitting. Everyone is required to have their own tools for work. Up until I started there I owned a hammer, a set of screwdrivers, an old ratchet and a few odds and ends. Luckily my stepfather had a collection of tools that were sitting unused since he passed away, so I took a few things to get me started. I now realize I'll never have or stop wanting more tools! lol
I had never used a torch, welded, used a grinder (much), or taken anything mechanical apart before.
Now I'm cutting with both an oxy/acetylene and plasma torch. Have started tacking with stick and Mig, and am getting damn confident with a grinder. I'm even fabbing stuff! Holy **** I love making stuff! See some of what I've done and a couple boats I've made stuff for bellow.
Exhaust wrapping. Tise was a 10 inch pipe wrapped with 1" thick insulation then wrapped with fiberglass cloth then stitched up. There were 2 at almost 20' long to do.
Making a tie bit. First time using a torch. I did have a guide on it to help though.
Lugs and hatch covers for fuel tanks being made for barges we're building.
I had to modify a step for this boat we just built
Made a wack of aluminum backing plates and spacers for this one
Not bad for only 7 months in I think (hope). LOL
