Hi, guys and gals. I was doing some late night web searching and stumbled upon this gem of a forum. I had no idea there was a forum for Garages.

Who'd of thunk it this day and age.

Anyhoo, here is my situation. I live in the Central Valley of the state of California. The city is not important. Doesn't get too cold in winter but really hot in summer here. I bought a brand new home with a finished garage and would like to start taking small steps to making it a 'man cave/play room'. One thing I though would be important is heating and cooling the area.

What or where do you guys recommend I start?

The following are the details of my garage:

-20x20 feet
-Walls have been drywalled (finished)
-All walls insulated, save for the one exposed to outside.
-Regular Garage Door (Aluminum, i think)
-One standard door to outside of house

I would look over the garage - here they don't bother blowing insulation over the garages. I'd do that, then insulate the door. you can get 1" think pink R3 insulation at HD for not a lot of $. With that, a regular 12K BTU window unit would cool that space really well. Assuming you have somewhere to put it. Better but more $$$ would be a split system about the same BTU. Easier to hide outside, less wall destruction too.
