HI I am Andrew Ruddy and Deaf. i am automotive techician. i am employee at Chrysler and Jeep / Mercury and Lincoln dealership.

I wonder anyone in the garage journal are deaf or i am only deaf?

i know that some people think deaf cant work on automotive because it have sound thing like rattle or grind but the sound can make feeling like rattle or grind as stratch on metal. i always use my hands and eye to see what problems unless it have sound then i had tech to listen if i cant find the problem.

I am attend to Ivy Tech college as Automotive technology and soon will graduate in one semster as i been in college almost three years as on Dean's List. most of my automotive teachers teach me to do the different way like use screwdriver to feel on parts but not electric system. they show me to do different way so i can diagonis right way and fix first time. i had lot of diagonis tools like vacuum gauage, compression gauages and too many testing equiments than other techin my work.

hope anyone understand my message about myself because i am deaf and my first language is america sign language and english is my second language.

please ask me if anyone have question about me or want ask me. thanks :)

Hey Deafautotech,

You're not the only deaf member on this board. Although I only have a couple or so posts so far, I've lurked through the forum for several months for some good ideas to apply to my 3 car attached garage.

I haven't done too much but just a work bench and threw up some used kitchen cabinets on the wall. It is still a work in progress at the moment. Can't do too much when it's cold out with no heater in the garage.

I know what you mean about needing more diagnosis tools to know what's happening inside the engine. One thing I know I can't do is hear if the engine is pinging or knocking. I just take someone along for the ride and ask when they hear it coming and make timing adjustments accordingly.

I'm a CAD drafter/designer by trade.

Alex
