Well I've got a large Vertical compressor that was willed to me after my Uncle's death. I unfortunately don't have a garage, so I'm thinking aoubt putting it on the carport and building 2 walls around it to protect it from the side that is open to the yard (to protect from the weather) and the side that you could see in while looking from the street.

Anyone done this or something similar? Wondering how the compressor would hold up to being exposed to the temperature changes like that? Any thoughts or suggestions.

All I have is a carport, too. I decided to build a very small shed just next to the carport out of some extra galvanized sheeting I had lying about. I framed it just like one would for a regular-sized shed, doors and etc. and poured a tiny concrete pad.

The compressor lives in it, and I also built in a hose reel on the rear wall. Zero problem with weather-related issues. It gets very cold here. I presently have an oil-less but am soon to upgrade to an oil-type. I might find I need a lower wt. oil in winter, but I do not know yet.

In any case, no problems for my compressor.

My understanding is that the large compressors need ventilation to keep from overheating. You might check that out, or may somebody knowledgeable on here might chime in.

With your moderate climate in NC, I think you'll be fine with the compressor in carport year-round. Your walls built around it really just need to protect from rain.

You could also "UpSize" this project to just close in whole carport and make it a bona fide garage !! :rocker:

There's another GJ thread where guy had 3 stall carport and man his garage now is simply awesome.

What's your carport size? Have you priced out buying studs and sheeting material/siding to at least close off the one wall that allows rain to get into carport in the first place?

My carport is a 1 car. Original to the house. But you can barley fit a car in it so we don't. Not sure I have the funds to enclose the whole thing, although I wish I could.
