Do any of you have a high back stool you like. I searched for the last hour and didt find much.

I am wanting an adjustable heigth unit.

I am 6'7" so I built my workbench surface 41 1/2" off the deck.

Thanks, Joe

Here is one I made. It's a used Lund Boat seat. The Legs are scrap 2x4x 1/8" tube the vertical tube is 2x2 tube with a nut welded into one side. The chair bolts to a piece of 8x8 flat and has to pieces of unistrut (used for hanging plumbing etc. ususally in commercial typr buildings) welded back to back with 1/2" washers for shims. The unitstrut slides into the 2x2 a bent bolt and a unistrut nut acts as the adjuster thingy. I use it alot at the drill press. TB

I recently saw a broad leg high backed Craftsman chair. It looked pretty nice.

A bit concerned about it only having four castors, take a look at offfice chairs all new ones have five our six. Why; role two cators of your chair up against a rope or extension lead and push on the seat. My money is on the seat topling over, not fun:(

The other two are training wheels. Don't worry, you'll be on four wheels with the rest of your friends soon! :)

I got mine several years ago at Griot's Garage (www.griotsgarage.com); the padded seat is 27" from the floor as shown with the legs in the lowest position, and the legs are adjustable to raise it another 12". The top of the padded backrest is 12" above the seat as shown, and is adjustable so it can move up another two inches.

Just curious if anyone has come upon a good stool since I last posted this?

I tried the craftsman one but my **** is too big. I did buy an old ugly one at a flea market that I have been using. It is about to take a dive in the dumpster so I am still looking.

You must be a big boy. Since the time I initially responded to this thread I took the plunge and bought a couple of Craftsman and a couple of Griots broad leg high backed chairs. I'm 6'4" and 240 lbs. My big **** fits on both of these chairs. I really like the Craftman chairs and feel they are the best value though the Griots are nice also. I did notice in the last Craftsman tool flyer that the chairs I bought are now available in several colors besides black.

I use one that I grew up with. I don't want to think about how old it is.
It was a table stool for each of us 4 as we grew up, but it has spring loaded steps that fold back under the seat so my mom could get stuff in the high cabinets.
So, I guess you would call it a kitchen step stool.
No castors because I use those steps all the time to get to the high shelves myself.
Don't be afarid to check out the kitchen area a wallyworld. That is where I got the sive that all my old oil goes through on it's way to the bucket.
Or ask the guys a NAPA where they get their stools.

What about bar stools? You can find then at unfinished furniture places. They are made out of wood, have a back and swivel. Used office furniture places carry drafting stools.

I've just recently purchased this model, it replaced an old kitchen stool with a back. It's a far cry better than what I had and actually quite comfy, I'm 6' 210lbs, so YMMV.

Quite comfortably just on chair per ****. :D Seriously though, I use these stools while reloading ammunition and sometimes sit for a couple of hours at a time. I've found them to be a very decent product for $50. I've had several back surgeries and have a couple of spinal fusions. I've been able to use the adjustable back rest very nicely. The Griots chairs are lacking in this area when compared to the Craftsman.

I like ditchdoc's first idea.
If you have one of the big box sporting stores near you, like a Cabala's or a Bass Pro, go check out the "Big Mans" boat seats.
They are just what the name says.
They will come with a ball bearing swivel, and shouldn't be too hard to adapt to a existittng base.
They do have adajustable posts for these seats also. About 4 to 6 inchs of vertical travel. They are designed to go into a base plate built into the floor of a boat.
But it wouldn't be too much of a project to put some castors on a piece of plywood, one of the bases on the other side, and then a adjable post and seat.

I might have to check into that, Sydney NE is pretty close to where I live.

I went back to Sears last week to look at their stools again. I sat on the craftsman stool again and it just didnt cut it for me. It is a nice looking well built stool but I am just to big for it.

Thanks for all the replies.

Why not scour Craigslist, or other local sales area. Wait for a chair and just make the thing into what you want. I mean. The steal tube that goes into these things isn't the thickest in the world, and w/ a bit of ingenuity one could easily modify a stool to their own needs. I got lucky. I'm a short fat little ******* that doesn't need to modify my Claas of America freebie seat. However, if I needed to, it wouldn't be a big deal. Heck, I might even have the results chromed so it matched.
Just my 2¢.
Good luck.

I spent 6 hours in the car yesterday.
While I was letting my mind wander it occured to me that we just take it for granted that our car and truck seats will be comforable for hours.
I would still check out the boat seat dept for the adj pedestals, but think of a car or truck seat for the top part.
