The problem with wrenches just "laying" there, every time you open and close your drawers, the wrenches will slide.

I can see how foam would stop that from happening, but nothing will save the wasted space.

CSSmitty--The problem I would have, I've added to my wrench and socket sets, so no tray is made that will carry everything, unless something custom is done. For example, my metric SO Combo wrenches go from 6mm to 22mm. I need the 6mm for bleeding brakes.

There just is no way to win.

I guy could buy some PVC (or other type of plastic), bar stock, and cut it just like wood. The problem with wrenches or sockets, each hole would be a different size!

Coiled wire huh. I'm going to have to try that.

I've got to have at least 4-5 of most sizes, except 16mm, I only have one, and it's cut in half. I don't need all these. Part of me wants to sell the extra stuff for whatever money I can get for it. I'll also build a "mobile" kit too for the truck. I'd REALLY like to dump all this Craftsman stuff and get some of them thar fancy Snap-On ones or something but they're just so damn much money. I'd have to go used.

I think I'm going to give that coiled wire a try.

This will just have to work for now. 95% of the time I'll be grabbing the red tray off the top.

I just looked at my wrench drawer in the show us thread, page 408 if anybody cares. I come up with +/- 105 wrenches not including Allen or ignion wrench sets in one drawer. Organized on three sets of two piece cut to length Ernst wrench rails.

I still think these are ideal. Strong magnets in the bottom keep them in place in your drawer and the wrench in place in it's place.

But at $30/ea I'm not sure I can bring myself to throw down for them yet. I wish they made one 32" long with labels so you could make your own layout. I might make one out of wood with those large HF magnets that someone else posted earlier in this thread.

This guy did something similar:

Wow, they are identical to snap on's... but slightly cheaper.

I needed to get my wrenches in a shallow drawer so I tried cutting out some high density foam I stripped out of an electronics shipping case I was scrapping. Here's some of the foam pieces I'd salvaged:

I cut the angles steeper on the larger ones that go up to 1 5/16. The smaller ones from about 7/8 are only slightly canted so you can still read the sizes easier. The angle wrenches are straight up and down and go from 3/8 to 7/8.

This is a different box with Metric on the left and SAE on the right. The squarish piece of foam from the top photo with the 2 raised up strips and the lower centre is the foam I mainly used. I marked lines across spaced at about 3/4 all the way along just as a guide so the slots matched or lined up with each other on both raised up strips. You can see the angles cut into the foam on this last photo. I used a 1/4 box cutter to cut the slots starting with the small ones, doing a few at a time adding the wrenches then cutting 2 more slots2 at a time till I had them all done. This allowed me to make sure I wasn't weakening the foam strips too much and they would still support the wrenches. The slots for the small wrenches are quite thin and the larger ones have 1/4 slots with more space between for strength. I used to have to store the larger sizes separate so I kinda like this set up. This is as far as I got for now.

I just reorganized my wrench drawer after adding a set of Gearwrench 120xp box wrenches, I'm pretty happy with the density of my layout! I might be able to squeeze one more set in there!

I use the Snapon wrench racks. It's best to pick your drawer wisely for your wrenches. I have over 14 wrench sets so far
