Hi Guys,
I'm looking for high grit flap discs to use in an angle grinder for polishing steel to a mirror finish. The best I can come up with is 120grit....does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes much higher grit discs than this?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

You won't get a mirror finish from an angle grinder. Gotta switch to a DA sander, then something with a buffing wheel

Trooper: you should ask this on a thread that is already started where the guys that really shine stuff up watch. I can't recall all the names of those threads, but there are a few.

my guess is they all use hand sandpaper over 400 grit, but I'm not certain. I know a few touch up with 1500 grit and then go to 2000 if that helps to get that mirror shine. here's a vise one of our members restored and he's up at the top, but he's not the best here at GJ.

i'm going to put a buffing wheel and a deburring wheel on my 3/4 baldor buffer which are a couple options.

good luck!!

You need a burnishing wheel/tool...they have all kinds of different materials and courseness types of wheels to get smooth finish...

Thanks guys.....I guess I should have said that I'm looking for a smooth shiny finish...not 'mirror".....but I'm sure all your tips still apply. I have a bench mount buffer, but the shape of the items I need to 'shine' require getting into small nooks and crannies.
Thanks

Tom Lipton shows a kit in his book " Metalworking sink or swim" made to putting a highly reflective surface on stainless, basically progressively finer Scotchbrite disc.

Check out Nyalox brushs. They come in 3 different grits. The blue is the finest and based on my experience with them, they sound right for you.

Thanks everyone for your input...I'm cleaning up old rusty horseshoes to repurpose them....your tips will help.
Cheers

I do horseshoe artwork. I soak in white vinegar for a day or two and then wire wheel on bench grinder. Some shoes shine better then others.
I just bought the Eastwood CST tool with spacers to use the 1'' wheels.
The tool is great ! I use the full width for cleaning up flat plate and it's amazing .I bought it on sale for $180.00 and it has a 3 year warranty.

This is before and after using it on rusty plate for the tool and accessories holder I made.
It's variable speed and soft start. It's definitely a great addition for my artwork.
I consider the METABO but that's $800.00. With Eastwood at $200.00 and3 year warranty, it was a easy choice.
