Wondering what to do about potential humidity problems in both my new garages. Moved to OR coast and am about 500 feet back and 200 feet above the Pacific shoreline. Humidity can vary from 60-85% in both garages
Pretty much gave up on the main garage which is detached, uninsulated but well vented. The problem now is the garage which is actually downstairs and has insulated walls and a insulated roll-up 16' door.

Best thing you can do is oil everything down. Tools, benches, etc.

Next is to keep the air moving. Here in SC, I havae a helluva time with everything in my insulated barn sweating. I keep two ceiling fans running and it makes a huge difference.

This calls for air conditioning. Maybe a nice mini split that can cover you all year around?

judging by his location, I would guess that he is comfortably cool already - and that cool inside temp is great for condensing the moist air that blows in.

Tricky spot calling for actual dehumidification.

Keeping the air moving is a great idea and will make a decent difference.

One word...dehumidifier. I had the same problem in my 24x40. Now I have three ceiling fans going all the time, plus a regular dehumidifier running 24/7.

Humidity is only a problem when there is a temperature differential.

The differential occurs when you open the door and allow warmer outside air to come into contact with cold objects inside. Condensation will form on the cooler objects.

If the interior of the building and the objects in it are at the same temperature as or greater than the ambient air outside, no condensation will form. It doesn't matter how high the humidity is.

Thanks all. AM leaning toward a dehumidifier with a constant drain. The main garage will have to work on just air flow and oil. You should see my BBQ!! Less thn 2 years old stainless steel and rusting away!!!
