High lift door conversion in Houston Tx

Im looking for someone who can install a high lift door kit on my door. Has anyone oin this area had one of these done? if so who would you recommend and what was a ballpark cost?

Are you talking about an overhead garage type door? A roll-up type? I might know someone.

yes it is a residential two car garage door, plain uninsulated steel (for now)

I'm guessing you need to cut the opening bigger, and put in a taller door?

I priced it in Cincinnati through overhead door company, there's probably one in Houston and would guess they are very familiar with the conversion and can do it reasonably. The guy I talked to in Cinci knew what I was talking about immediately and had a price estimate for me in a few minutes on the phone, with a side lift motor. It was a $450 for the high lift, about $1000 with the side live motor, parts and labor.

I just had a new house built in The Woodlands with a high lift door. One of the rails has Stewart Door written on it. Googling them, they are on West Little York and look like a supplier, not an installer. They might be able to direct you to someone that can install one, though.

Probably stating the obvious... but this is one of those things...

Ask for references - specific to high lift conversions. Sadly a lot of installers really have no clue - repaired one today with 8' of extra cable; the supplier had techs out there weekly for months, swapped springs a couple times as balance was way out, couldnt figure out why cables kept throwing "user error" and a bill was sent each time... I should have gotten pictures - no level used (they measured off framing to set headplates; 2x4s never have a crown after all) so spacing was a major issue, door got forced right as it lifted... headshaft was an inch out of level (measured down off ceiling - that must be level...)

there are techs who know how to do highlift conversions, and installers with no clue...Make sure you get a tech who knows how to do it correctly.
