Looking for one you'd be happy to use every day with a metal body and good ergonomics.

I have an Irwin strait-line bought somewhat recently, which shredded the line somehow, jammed up a big wad of string inside, the lever does not retract which makes pulling the body out hurtful as the lever swings around wildly. Cleaned out the broken line and the mechanism is still janky. The plastic door has jammed in the past and I broke off one of the tabs with my fingernail trying to open it.

I recall one that my Dad had which was much nicer to use ergonomically and never had any of the above issues. However I cannot recall which brand.

Looking for whatever a pro carpenter or framer would use.

My concrete contractor buddy swears by the Tajima Chalk-Rite II product line. He definitely prefers USA made, but this is one of his few exceptions.
