I just upgraded all of my tap handles to Starrett and couldn’t be happier. Just wish I would have done it sooner. So I’m now in the market to upgrade my die holders. Does anyone make one of similar quality to Starretts tap holders?

Another great upgrade to tap handles is the Lisle 70500 set of tap sockets. They fit from about 6/32 to 1/2-13 and let you use extensions, ratchet etc. to extend your reach on taps. They also work great on a speed handle to clean threads when rebuilding engines. They are about $20 on Amazon.

The nicest ones I've yet used were made by Greenfield Tap & Die. I think they are still sold at McMaster Carr, I have some 1-1/2" dia split dies to go in them.

I know you’re asking about die holder, but i just wanted to second Lisle for taps. Lisle Tap sockets are a life saver when tapping threads that are in a pocket or recessed area. I use them extracting broken bolts in those areas as well because screw extractors fit in them also. I’ve seen some guys use 12-point sockets as tap sockets. But Lisle is worth the $. I got mine for $32 on ebay a couple years ago. Maybe i should have checked Amazon.

I have never used dies in my trade to date, so sorry I don’t know about that. Have Cut threads on the lathe.
