High quality rolling cabinets

We moved into a new house that has a 1500sq ft (30x50) external garage. I am in heaven. I'd like to add some cabinets, but I want to keep the layout flexible, so I'm looking for cabinets that are on wheels so they can be easily moved. I'd also like them to be very high quality that will last me the rest of my life.

So far, I'm looking at Seville Classics UltraHD and the Tennsco Jumbo Cabinets, which have a caster base accessory you can purchase.

Of the two, I prefer the Tennsco since they're welded, not assembled.

Any opinions on these two brands? Any other brands I should be considering?

Thanks.

Nice size garage, you will fill it quicker than you think!

Lista, Stronghold, Lyon, Vidmar. Those are probably some of the best, there are others as well. The ones you referenced will probably not last "the rest of your life". Another option is the gladiator welded series, they are more expensive than the ones you showed, but they are cheaper than the ones I mentioned. Sears sells them.

Thanks -- at first glance, none of those appear to offer full height roller cabinet, but perhaps I missed them?

That's been my biggest challenge -- lots of half-height mobile cabinets, but very few taller (at least ~66", preferably 72"-78") cabinets. Maybe due to center of gravity concerns -- dunno.

I would say that a cabinet that is on wheels that is that tall would kill someone with a little push in the wrong direction. You may consider cabinets that could be moved by using a pallet jack as well. The cabinets that I first mentioned may not offer wheels due to the amount of weight they are designed to hold. To give you an example, I bought a (used) Lyon cabinet that has shelves that are rated at 1450 pounds per shelf.

If you check out Jack Olsen's garage, he used stronghold cabinets, they are very heavy duty. His thread is "The 12 Gauge Garage".

Another option would be to get two identical cabinets on wheels and bolt them together back to back so they were more stable.

IF it were me, I'd go the used office furniture route for the cabinets, build a frame underneath for the casters, and paint them whatever color I chose. Most of the office cabinets will hold up to home use and will be the last stuff you will ever buy. I have a tall cabinet like you want (not on wheels) and I use it to store paint. My 3 drawer lateral file cabinet is on wheels and I like it very much. Just my .02, good luck and have fun!

I built a 4" riser under my cabinets. I can use my refurbished $50 craigslist pallet jack and move them around if needed.

I hadn't considered the pallet jack route. It's not as convenient as having them on wheels full time, but it's a heck of a lot more convenient than having to unload them to move them. Plus likely a lot safer as well.

I appreciate all the suggestions!

My main workbench and several other items in my garage are up in the air as well. However I use a HF Scissor jack to move them around. The scissor jack lifts stuff taller and I can use it for a work surface if necessary.

here are some pictures of how I move some of my shelving. My cabinets are on similar risers.

I have six of the Seville cabinets. Just to be clear, they are not ultra heavy duty. I would call them medium duty at best. However, I think they are good value. I started with one and kept on buying more.

Having said that, one of them houses two chevy engine blocks and 6 chevy V8 heads.... all on the bottom shelf. However, I made a custom fit floor out of 3/4 inch plywood. The thin metal floor would not have otherwise supported that kind of weight. For sure, I do not have to worry about that cabinet falling over because it is bottom weighted so heavily.

I also have four tires and wheels sitting on another one of the cabinets, but made the mistake of NOT putting down a 3/4 inch plywood sheet. The top is just starting to bow a bit. We are (hopefully) moving soon, and I will reinforce the top before putting the tires and wheels back up there.

Just be sure to put your heavy stuff on bottom. The cabinet with the tires on top also has engine blocks on bottom, again, on plywood.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I ended up going w/ the Lyon heavy duty cabinets. No wheels, but I will use a pallet jack to move them.
