I’m needing a good wire wheel on my bench grinder. The original one on it, was really good and after it went, the replacement didn’t last long at all (bought from HD) what are some good brands? Wanting a wide face

I’ve got an older Baldor 1/2hp 6”

2nd the Weiler. None of them will balance without help but Weiler brushes do not throw wire like the cheap ones.

Pferd makes decent die grinder wire brushes, may be worth checking into for bench grinder offerings.

There is really no advantage of a wire wheel over the 3m abrasive other than cost.

I have not used the nylon abrasive brush but I do have a worn out non abrasive one. It lasted about a week.

That's not always the case. One should use the right tool for the job. I often use a 3M bristle brush to remove paint, rust etc. I use a wire wheel to burnish the surface of a part.

I prefer picking shards of wire out of my cheek :)

Literal LOL... I did not realize there were other options? Def going to check into some of the suggestions above. My wire wheel on the bench grinder is shedding like a mangy dog lately.

Puts a nice shine on glass-beaded vise handles etc.

Plus a wire wheel will clean bolt threads better than just about anything.

Cheek?? I wish! My wire wheel got me three times:
1, Stapled testicle to leg

2, Stapled **** to leg (pull wire, limp into house, walk past gf, get "What's all that blood, are you on your period?")

3, Stapled **** to testicle (finally bought leather apron, apparently I may be a slow learner)

First time it happened the pliers were across the shop on a bench so I had to walk about 20ft. Dropped trou & could only see about 1/4in of wire. Thought it must be a short piece... gave it a tug... it went in about 1 1/2in. Made my eyes water a bit, thought I was gonna puke for a moment.

After that episode, I kept pliers RIGHT THERE next to the grinder.

Yes!!! Glass bead, then lightly wire wheel creates a great burnished surface. That's my favorite method of finishing hammer heads . . . except the striking surface. That gets polished, and if it's for metal work, buffed.

ZRX61, you nearly cost me a new computer as I came so close to spitting my beer all over the the place. Funniest thing I've read in a while!

I have a Craftsman 6" block grinder I'm going to set up parts cleaning and paint stripping. I was thinking a brass wire wheel probably a Weiler as that's what Zoro carries and maybe a nylon or synthetic like a 3M something or another. Looking for recs for my application.

Also I'm thinking a Uvex Bionic for a face shield. What sort of gloves are good? I've only used Jack'n'Jennies in the past.
