high spot in roof

we moved in last September. I walked the roof and didn't notice anything. there was a huge ice buildup in the gutter in this corner. one day when the snow started to melt we had a wet ceiling tile around this inside corner area. since then we haven't had any water issues. I assumed a build up of ice melted and got under the shingle. now its bowed up on both sides. there is still some snow on the ground but most is gone. any ideals? roof was redone in 07

Sounds like the sheathing(if thats the correct term) under the shingles got wet and swelled up. Chip board is bad about swelling when wet. If that's the case, it may go down when it dries but will be weaker. I'm not in the snow country and I'm not sure about future prevention of ice dams, but aren't there roof rakes you can get to rake off snow while standing on the ground? You will have to get a professional roofer to fix it. I recently had to have a leak fixed in a roof that is maybe 10 years old. I have solid wood tougue and groove roofers under the shingles and there was no swelling so I hope it stays fixed.

You have a classic ice dam problem.

I am guessing that corner is facing the south west?
The afternoon sun is melting the snow on the black shingles and it freezes at the eves.

You probably have the 3 feet of rubber ice dam prevention at the edge around the house.
But at that valley it should be 6 feet.
In fact, all the way up the valley would not be a bad idea.

But that will have to wait until you re-roof.
In the meantime rakeing the snow is the only solution.

its actually north west. I will have to get a snow rake. it was hard and I couldn't push down on it so im guess its still frozen under it. the side to the left is over the garage and I haven't noticed any water from it yet,

You can get gutter/eave heaters and run those instead of raking. There should be at a minimum roof tar paper/felt to waterproof under the shingles. If the ice was large enough I can see it walkin up pretty high tho.

I'm not a roofer, but I don't like the way that cut line in the valley was done. It looks to me like if you have an ice dam at the bottom on the left side, the water from above will run down and run right up under the shingles on the left side??

just thought I would update. I had a roofer come out. he said he seen a few things wrong. first he said the tabs under the shingles in the valley should have been trimmed off. he also said the scored the shingles under when they cut the valley. he said it could be a one time leak since winter was so bad but could be a bad spot there. said he would have to remove the valley shingles to know for sure. said it would run about 700.00 but I could trim the tabs as he called it and see what happens.

Is there a low spot in a sraight line somewhere above that hump?

I've seen a cracked rafter sag further up the roof and act like a lever to raise the opposite end, sort of like a see-saw teeter-tooter.
