Looking for a high temp thread locker or sealant.

Currently using a branding iron to brand wood, it used a 5/8" 11tpi threaded connection and its been working itself loose lately.

It would be nice to be able to still get it apart if I need to change dies.

Any suggestions? Seems most "high temp" thread lockers top out at ~500 degrees.

Application: 5/8" threaded bolt, 1100 degrees max temp, constant forces and vibrations, needs to NOT be permanent.

Thanks LX, always nice to see you chime in.

Ive never seen those, will add it to the arsenal of info Ive learned here.

Unfortunately I dont know if that will work for this application, the connection is unique due to a concave surface where the bolt meets the iron head.

Its odd, but I think it has to do with the outer body heating the die - see the attached pics for a better idea.

But perhaps a standard lock washer might but grab enough meat before flattening?

Ya that won't work in this case. Have you tried a external star washer. That would probably conform to the concave cut of the connection.

How about this link:

Copy everything except the quotes and paste in new browser window.

Thanks thats works. Strange, I even c&p the original into my textedit and it came up abbreviated?

Regardless, thanks. Found it, has great reviews and cheaper then Loctite products.

Ebay, 4oz, $17 shipped.

I don't know of any thread lockers rates for that temp. But I do know nord-lock washer work great for these types of applications.

McMaster Carr sells them. I use them for exhaust collector flanges when I have issues and they've never failed on me.

I've seen those on McMaster Carr and its never occurred to me to use those under exhaust fasteners! I'll have to order a handful to try out the next time everything is disassembled.

The last time I did final assembly on the project car I purchased some thread locking compound from McMaster Carr that turned out to be Resbond 907TS Threadlocker (McMaster Carr #7604A55). I needed a high temperature tolerance, but with breakaway at normal temperatures (i.e. the ability to loosen fasteners without having to apply heat). The first downside is that the stuff isn't cheap. The second is that it has a really short (6 months I believe) shelf life. I haven't heard of the Flexbar Rocksett stuff. I'll have to take a look at that!
