Me neither in a way. All he told me was they were made in the US by an "independent" tool manufacturer. Doesnt bother me too much though, as I have yet to be disappointed with anything that I got from Mcmaster.

I put money on that being them! The more I look at them, the more I think thats it. Not a bad price for an 8 piece set. Especially if they are as good as a set of MAC or Snap-On. From the people here on the boards, doing a search, they seem to be top notch screw drivers all the way. Should be here tomorrow :)

Hoping something with brighten my mood. Went to pick up my 56" bottom cabinet tonight, and they put the forks of the fork lift right into the front of the box. Caved in 2 of the drawers, so now I have to wait another couple of days for them to "rush" order on and get it here. Man was I pissed when I walked in the door, and seen that setting up on the order shelf. You would think they would at least call a guy and let him know that they put the fork's through his tool box, and they would have to order another one right? Not just say "yep its here, ready for pick up". Then let him drive all the way there to find its ruined. Not to mention his buddy that took time out of his night to haul his trailer there to pick it up.......

*end rant*

And here they are. They are indeed Pratt-Read drivers. Very nice too, especially for the price! Only thing Im not too crazy about is the fact that they are smooth grips. But feel great in the hand! And nice heavy feel to them. The tips also look very nice as you can see. Def. NEON green! BHH, I think you would love them!

Wow, those are the same as the SK handles. I really like those. Post a link to the set on MC!

Found it, click High-Visibility screwdrivers after following this link.
http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-screwdrivers/=f9j12t

if you are referring to the new sk handles yes. if you are referring to the old sk no. they are not the same. the new sk are large, chunky and in general not very ergonomic. the old handles are thinner, have a nice ergonomic taper and though smooth don't feel as slippery as the new handles. i like the old sk handles. the new, not so much.:(

Damn they don't ship to Canada. Anyone willing to order a set for me and then send them here? I will compensate you for your time.

Upon further poking it seems they do ship to Canada... I think.

Almost exactly two years ago when I posted THIS thread:

http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51463

I did a little onlne research and readthat Pratt-Read made Sears Craftsman screwdrivers. I got what I thought was a helluva deal but if its true that mine are equivalent of SK's well....:bounce: "that would be better then, wouldn't it?!"

My handles are not shaped like these so they don't look nearly as cool, but they're very comfortable to use. Now I'm goining to want to get some of these green ones though!

The SK drivers in the big picture above, are the same handle style as these ones from McMaster. I really like these drivers. Enough that I might get another set of them. Not that I need another set, but you know...... LOL

If that's true, than why are they being criticized for being, as SK Farmer said, "large, chunky and in general not very ergonomic"?

I wonder if the one SK Farmer showed was somehow different? Perhaps they were still trying to decided what size handle to use on each driver or there is something else different about the SK drivers?

Look at your picture there above. See the top one says 81004? Thats a different style. Then you have the next one down as 81003. I think that is the "large and chunky" style he was speaking of. Then the very bottom one is also 81003, which I *think* is the current handle version. Atleast, that one looks to best fit with these that I have gotten here.

Im pretty sure I know what forum your talking about. Ill look for it there. I may be wrong. Im new at all this. But all I CAN tell you, is these are the current stock at McMaster, and they are no bigger then my MAC drivers, as you can see in the pictures. Thats all I can tell you. If this is what he is considering "big and chunky" then I guess he just doesnt like this style handle?

Those are some really nice drivers. Great price too. Thanks for sharing. I'll be ordering an orange set tomorrow at work. I've got an old mcmaster catalog I'm about to dig out, just to see if they are in there. Thanks again for sharing. That green looks really nice

picture thief!!!!!! just kidding they are up for all to see. if you like big and chunky handles the new ones are it. like i said in my comparison they look good in the pics but upon further inspection the do not compare to the old drivers. just my opinion.

I am incorrect. These ones look like them too? We wouldnt know unless we can do a true side by side by side comparison of all of them.

attachment.php

these are old style handles, i can tell by looking. i own a couple sets and know them well enough to tell. the handles are more rounded, have a slight taper and have a light seam that can be seen from the molding. the new handles are more square, have no taper and have sharper coners. they are very similar to the handles that were on the pry bars, files, scrapers and the us made screwdrivers( 4 in 1, 10 in 1, 2 in 1 anb the very long cabinet screwdrivers that were domesticly made).

I dug out two of the old SK screwdrivers I have. There are some differences. Only one is marked "FRANCE," while the other has no country of origin marking. They're both #2 phillips, but the name/part number is stamped on the non-france one, while it was only painted on the French driver and has worn off. There are some very minor differences in the handles. The French handle is very slightly longer and fatter.

I was going to post some pics in a new thread and try to get someone to measure a new SK driver to tell the difference, but now I'm too tired.

Here are some pics I took. The battered MAC driver was a #2 Phillips. It is there to show the size comparison.
