Have a typical 16x7 garage door being run by a Genie device. Installed it all myself, works fine, a year old, slow but reliable. I have 10'-0" ceiling and was thinking about gaining that space, having tracks of garage go up another 24" closer to underside of bottom truss chord as they are about 8' off floor now. Probly a direct mount door operator and a set of extension track pieces?
Curious if anyone has done this, paid to have it done, etc.

Yep, it's a common thing to do. I just did the same in my attached garage with a 10' ceiling and a 16'x7' door by raising the operator and having Overhead Door Co come out to raise the spring and tracks 12". Total cost was ~$250 and a couple hours of my time.

I had my shop set up with high lift tracks from the start with 16'x8' doors and a 12'7" ceiling height. I installed Liftmaster 8500 operators on those doors and have been very pleased with them.

Not only will you benefit from additional clearance, but the Lftmaster 8500's are great. Quiet, faster, solid door lock mechanism and combined with MY-Q technology adds many features. As well, order the remote wall lights which can be placed anywhere you want. Customer support is great.

Our master bedroom is above the garage. When he had Genie openers we knew when our teenage children came in. Not so with the Liftmasters. Thankfully, they have an app that let's you know when the garage door opens/closes. That was the excuse to keep our Iphones on the night tables.
