I couldn't see any threads on this but

https://hitachi-powertools.co.uk/news/hikoki_name_change

Not too sure on KKR's direction, I have a feeling Metabo will be retained as the premium brand while <s>Hitachi</s> HiKoki will become the "budget" end.

I can't help feeling a little sad if this is so, considering their new Brushless line-up is a big step in the right direction.

As far as I have read it is just a brand name change. I believe Hitatchi sold their power tool line. I think they will continue to put out the nicer brushless models like they have recently.

Can't help but think of this when I read that brand name.

I bet it'll pretty much be the end of Hitachi tools, and possibly Metabo as well. These large investment firms have proven many times over they have no idea how to run a company. KKR's Toys R Us just filed for Chapter 11.

They'll cut engineering and marketing budgets, decrease tool quality and sell the brand off completely in 5 years when there's nothing left.

:) I must admit it did cross my mind too!

I really hope this isn't the case, but I do have my fears it might mark the start of a decline.
Hitachi always used to be (in the UK at least) a solid no frills tool at a reasonable price, they were lacking behind the curve recently in specs, but the new revamp with the brushless models has really got them back into the game.
I hope KKR don't muck it up.

KnurledNut, yes I have the triple hammer impact, it is excellent! Most of their new brushless range is actually very good to be fair. I've got some combi drills, SDS, multitool and the circular saw, so far I'm impressed I hope to add the reciprocating saw when it is released here.
