Here's one I just finished for a house warming gift for my daughter and son in law.
The 450 wilton was the first good vise I owned and I thought it fitting for their first good vise.
The stand was cobbed together from junk out of the bone pile.
I also threw in a couple horse shoes for luck.

The only thing "Hillbilly" about that stand is the fact that the parts came from a scrap pile. That's practically art. Nice work!

I'm laughing because it's not at all like the vision that popped into my mind when I read the title of the thread. The first thing that popped into my mind is a polisher stand I made, using a railroad track connector plate as the base, and a length of rusty old well casing pipe for the stand shaft. THAT looks "Hillbilly!" (It works beautifully, though!)

You have some great artistic vision sir, all of the stands you've posted on here have been pure functional artwork. Very nice.

I would make that a center piece to my shop. Hell, I would probably try to talk the wife into showing it off in the house first. Very nice!

Looks great.

When I saw hillbilly I pictured an integrated mini fridge with beer keg/tap or gun rack or something. You sell yourself short, I think anyone here would be proud to use that.

Royce that is a one of a kind! Great job. I would like to introduce myself as your long lost SIL. Please send vice ASAP. I'm a little short on coin at the moment, so please pay postage. I'll catch up to you later once I'm flush again!

Thanks all,
And for the ones wanting or claiming kinship, come on up.
I got some timber to skid and buck, some roofing and siding to install and the general get ready for winter chores to do.
If don't eat too much and can prove your worth, you too can have a shot at a vise and stand!!!

Thanks again all,
Seems as some would argue this is not hillbilly.
Being raised in western Montucky, I consider myself a rocky mountain hillbilly.
I surely would not use the term in a disparaging way, but to describe something made with what I had and to describe the mismatched pieces.
To my eye the hex shaped top plate just does not belong, nor do the horse shoes.
With that said I would not change a thing.
Had I used a gear or sprocket for the top plate, I would have called techno or steam punk.
I do have a bigger roller chain and when I find the right gears, I'll build another one proper!
I love all the great feedback
All in fun

That thing sure isn't hillbilly, that's nice.

I believe the GJ crowd is slipping, none of them asked for pics of the daughter ?

That turned out nice.

I'm envious of the scrap you have access to.

One scrap yard locally will let rummage the yard and buy scrap from them but the selection is less than desirable most days.

That's fu**in awesome man!!

Looks 10x's bur-ly-er then any piece of sh*t they would sell in stores.

Never did too much welding myself, just a tiny bit on my fathers Lincoln buzz box

Want to get into more though, would like to try welding up a bench grinder stand one day

Just a memory that popped into my head, growing up my father was an owner operator

He owned Mack,Peterbilt, and Freightliner big rigs throughout the years.

I know a few times I helped him change the brakes on his truck...a Peterbilt brake drum would make an excellent base for a stand...if memory serves that had to be minimum 70lbs of metal...or more...didn't throw it on a scale, but think I remember nearly dropping a testi moving them!!!
