This has probably come up before - but, has anyone sought to acquire any of the Hillman small hardware parts cabinets that are used by Lowes (maybe HD also?) to store small hardware items? I noticed one in my local Lowes facility over the weekend. They have a single cabinet approximately 5ft wide with two sets of nice slider drawers, one bank of 3 - 4 drawers on the left and the same on the right. Each drawer has many dividers. They would be perfect for my home workshop - and probably anyone else's. Just wondering if anyone had sought how to acquire these and had any success. Lowes also has a tool box type cabinet with about 6 - 8 evenly sized, slider drawers that are used to store small hand tools. They are labeled Craftsman. They also have the same cabinet labeled Kobalt. When I ask, I'm told I need to call the headquarters office because they do not have them for sale. I've done that and continue to run into a wall. Nobody knows, or nobody ever calls back. Just wondering. Thanks.

Its been brought up several times and I don't think anyone has had any success in buying them from the manufacturer, if so I bet they would not be cheap. Some here tried for the Kobalt when the big Craftsman rollout happened but I'm pretty sure they did not have any luck. I was working for Lowes during the CM launch and tools was one of the departments I was in charge of. All but a few of the Kobalt cabinets were to be sent in but the whole ordeal was a fiasco. My store manager let one the assistants have a few. I had the option but passed because the garage I had at the time was simply too small to cram anything else into. Now with a 3 car attached garage and a 2600sq' shop I kick myself sometimes.

I have decided to go the route of the sortimo style with the yellow and black harbor freight cases. Alot of my stuff is in them already but I have not built the cabinets for them yet. I've been picking up the cases when HF runs the 30% off items under $10. I will need some of the bigger ones as well but have been waiting for them to go on sale.

Thanks Bucko - I thought as much, but given the number of people on this site I thought I might get lucky. They are nice cabinets and you're right, they would probably be very expensive. I would just like the opportunity to consider purchasing one if I could find something..

We had an old Lowe's closing and moving to a new - bigger store. They had their SS fasteners on a super sale and having "hardware disease", every few days I'd stop in for a little "fix". One trip in I asked for a manager and asked them for a price of the whole display and inventory and she actually called me back. I now have a **** ton of SS hardware, in both the little drawers with the product shrink wrapped to the drawer front along with another complete selection of the little "tip out" bins. $900.
You can only imagine how fast I made it to Lowe's! 🥳20220316_121845.jpg20220316_121911.jpg
The tip out bins are still stored. There's a lot of stuff that I don't use much of, but it's a super source to have in the shiop, especially with a 20 mile drive to town.
This also was about 15 years ago and I for some reason believe that they may have been changing vendors or the display set up for the new store.

Not to mention the price difference between now and 15 years ago. As my cousin used to say when he would come across such deals..." it's a bargain if I never use it"... Thanks Jack Stand. You're set.

Those are great, but would require more wall space than some solutions.

There have been a few threads about building racks to store the harbor freight storage cases in. That's the route I took.

Yeah thats what I went with. Once you get enough of them you can mix and match the divider bins to get what size you need for each case.
I was originally going to do a inside cabinet wall mount but think I am now leaning towards roller "cabinet" style cases that will fit under my benches. My benches are all wall mount around the perimeter with open bottoms because its a detached workshop and I like to have less areas for mice to hide. Going to build the cabinet boxes so they will roll under. Also since this is the 5th house I have built a workshop at I figure if/when I move again the cabinets will come with me. My father-in-law has totally given up on built ins and all his stuff is on wire rack shelving with wheels.

Hillman (the fastener company, not the car) is near me, I use to go there back in the 70's to pick up fasteners for my employer at the time. Hillman was just a small company then, now it is it's own industrial park.

It’s the POS retail spot
