First time I’ve seen this, what an amazing barn! Top notch, and a great eye for the details that really set it apart. I had a 97 TT.. loved that car and would like a replacement someday. That suxs about the railing, thankfully you found someone that could repair it. Very scary about the wildfires, and I pray for everyone affected by them. Thanks for sharing!

Not a surprise that this fire happened after the worst heat wave in PNW history thanks to climate change. Glad you and your neighbors are safe! Thank you firefighters!

Thanks for the kind words. Fire fighters were amazing. 12,000 acres burned and not one home lost.
The railing did get fixed. Final inspection by the building department is next week. (22 months after we started)

Nice addition. I'm glad you appreciate the old things. I have some antique furniture and other items that I inherited from parents and grandparents, but my kids [early 40's] and their generation don't care about any of it - except what it might bring on Ebay. Quality furniture to them is the IKEA ****. :(

Well done.

Awesome build! We are currently planning out house build and it will be a similar concept with full garage on the bottom and all the living space up top; sitting on a hillside with a walkout from the second floor. This really helps me visualize everything and put it in perspective. What size garage doors did you end up installing? Any feedback on the radiant heat? Did you install heat on the second floor as well?

I think the large garage door is 12' wide and 14' high, the small door is 8x8.
Nothing to report (yet) on the heated floor... only been using the garage since June.
The top floor is heated and cooled by three mini splits. The AC works well even at 110 degrees. The garage level is not air conditioned. Building into the hillside seems to have worked for cooling. Moving hot cars into the garage frequently will heat up the bottom level.

Just stumbled on your build - amazing! I like the design elements and some of the detail you've incorporated into this very interesting and elegant "barn". Kudos and a tip of the hat to you my friend, very nice. It was awful to see the fire pics it must have been gut-wrenching for you.

Thank you
We have lived here 14 years and received four evacuation notices. Previous notices were at level 1 or 2. First time the fire was this close. Having my our small vineyard and the neighbors is a great buffer. (plus all the concrete around the house)

Credit my wife with the design and details.

Just cut off the 3/4" angled piece to match the opposite angled piece, **** the pieces. Should be close enough. Maybe a tiny bead of translucent or light gray caulk.
