Hilti TM8 Rotary Hammer... question...

Sooooooo.......

I got a really good deal (I thought) on a rotary hammer.... its a Hilti so I knew it would be good (I thought) and was an awesome price (I thought)...

anyway turns out the chuck that came with it (in the case but not attached) I assumed it did, well it didn't fit.....

its a Hilti TM8... I emailed Hilti and got a rather curt "we don't support that product anymore" reply to my plea for a parts manual or a suggestion on which chuck I could use.


sooooooooooooo.......

what now? Does anyone have a chuck that will fit they would part with or know what will (fit) or want a TM8 without a chuck.

I assume yours ISNT the TM8 listed on eBay - also missing the chuck.. lol

A quick google - and it appears this was posted in 2011..

The TM8 was only manufactured from 1984-1986. Parts have not been available in around 15 years. The TM8 had HIlti's version of the Joacob's chuck. It tightened the opposite way from a standard chuck. It had a tendency to fall apart and come off.Hilti revised the chuck two to three times but eventually did away with it after three years.

You might be able to find one on Ebay.

If you have a decent machine shop in your area you may be able to get a sds chuck rethread to fit. Just a wild idea.

Just buy a different drill.. your trying to save what might be a 30+ year old drill..

Is the Hilti an SDS tool? If so, why do you want a Jacobs type chuck at all??

If you do need it, Bosch makes a good Jacobs chuck + SDS adaptor combo that will stand up to rotary hammer use and isn't terribly expensive. I got one because I already had 3' long smooth shank masonry bits left over from the dark days when I thought a hammer drill was the same thing as a rotary hammer. The chuck cost less than SDS bits that length.

Just read the ebay listing mentioned above. They consistently refer to it as a hammer drill. Not the same animal at all. If you need to drill anything more than 1/4" holes in concrete block for screw anchors, you do not want a hammer drill. A rotary hammer is an entirely different animal. IF the epay listing is wrong and it is a rotary hammer, refer to my first two paragraphs.
