All right so I'm building this gate. I've already installed one, but the customer is asking me to come up with a solution to swing out of the way in the second location. The one at the top of the stairs with a wall to the left, and the right is a new post. So the idea is to mount some type of double or even triple actuation hinge to swing out of the way a full 320-340 degrees.

I've seen hinges like this for a cabinet. And I could even use cabinet hinges but it needs to be set up to swing around a certain distance, like a 2x4 wall with drywall. Or the new post, anyone got any information or any direction you can point me in.

Hinge a 1x4 to the newel post, and then hinge the gate to the 1x4. The gate swings 90 degrees, then the 1x4 hinges another 270.

Stained to match the newell post, and you could even use thicker stock and notch to fit around post trim, and it will look pretty much matching.

I think you're right. At least that's what I'm going to try.
