Hinge idea for a movable folding bench

I work in a fairly small garage and space is becoming tight. I am looking to build a lightduty workbench that will hang on a wall space below my pegboard when not in use.

I want to make it such that when I need to use it, I can fold it up, have legs come out and it can detach from the wall so that I can roll it around (the legs will have casters). The part that I could use some help with is figuring out the most elegant solution for a hinge that will allow the table to hang when not in sure but also easily detach from the wall when needed. I was thinking of using heavy-duty gate latches with the bolts attached to each end of the table and the latches on the wall. When I push the able up against the wall, the bolt will latch allowing me to lift up the legs and let the table hang.

I am just not sure if two gate latch will be heavy duty enough to take the weight of a hanging bench. The idea is almost exactly like this youtube video except that I am looking for a better solution for the part that attaches the table to the wall:

I hope this is the right sub-forum. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Nick

If you plan to have legs on the front edge for a free standing bench, it will needto fold UP against the wall to have those legs fold unless they fold in from the bench ends.
Here's a design I found that's exactly as you describe:
and there are others there too.

And still another, folds DOWN though:

Most seem to be over-built under-engineered but that's just my opinion.

The last link you posted is the same one as in mine. Not sure why it has to fold 'up' for the legs to be able to swivel. Either way, i have a peg board right above it so folding up isn't an option at the moment. Thanks!

Looking for some hinge ideas for it to fold down.

You might consider using long gate hinges and bend an offset (thickness of your bench) into the leaves so it will fold flat against the wall, and swing out when you need it. Make the legs fold up into the underside of the bench so they don't add thickness.

Thank you, that makes sense! I just wanted to see if you folk thought two gate latches would hold the weight of a light bench and also if there were better ideas.

Thanks for reading/responding to me post.

um, did you look at the fold DOWN removable bench in the 3rd link ???
The hinge mount remains attached to the wall and the bench is attached to it via 2 lock hasps (gate latch), one on each end.

Here it is again, fold DOWN bench:

Take a look :rocker:

haha I did! and when I responded I even referenced that video (which I also had in my original post). I wanted something a bit more elegant if possible.

I would use lift off hinges or make some out of tubing where you can just slide it to one side to get the table off the hinge pin. You could use a latch behind one hinge to keep it from sliding if you were scared of that, but the weight wouldn't be on the latch itself.

Really liking this idea. Will respond back with pictures if I pull it off. Thanks!

An elegant design with regards to the hinge mechanism.

Thanks for trying to help man, but i don't think you read my original post in its entirety.
yeh, got it, elegant in regards to the hinge element
A gate latch though :dunno:
still following,
:D
Edit: ok this is about as elegant as I could find:

Then there's latches like these, not as elegant but surely sturdier:

More elegant in black/chicken coop version:
